Here is an interesting look at the college graduation years of our 12 Olympians.

The Old Folks:

Tamika "Catch" (2001)
Sue Bird (2002)
Swin Cash (2002)
Asjha Jones (2002)
Diana Taurasi (2004)
Lindsay Whalen (2004)

The Middle Aged:

Siemone Augustus (2006)
Candace Parker (2008)
Sylvia Fowles (2008) (Finished her degree credits in 2009)

The Young-uns:

Angel McAughtry (2009)
Tina Charles (2010)
Maya Moore (2011)

Interesting that UConn has four of the Old Folks, and the two youngest.

Will any of the Old Folks play in the 2016 Olympics?

Jones, Cash, Catchings pretty sure won't be around for 2016. Bird? probably not, but not as sure. I think Taurasi and Whalen will have one more in them. When they start losing their speed and their hops, that's not really what they are known for anyway.

Congrats to Jones on her recent addition to the team. I would say that this roster adds a lot of credence to the argument that the team that had Jones, Bird, Cash and DT was the best team to ever play.

And having Moore and Charles on the team also adds credence to the fact that they were one of the best duos in the history of the game.

To those who may complain about so many UCONN players on the team and thinking that it is because of Geno, get over it. All of these players deserve to be on the team and should be fully supported and celebrated for representing the USA.

WOW...what a team this is going to be to watch. I can hardly wait.

I agree that Taurasi and Whalen could be on the 2016 team. They would be about 34. Sue is a possible if her legs and interest are still there. Asjha, Swin, and Catch are likely retired or close by then.

I agree that DT and Whalen may be on the 2016 team. The rest are probably looking at their last opportunity for Olympic gold. Probably, but by no means certainly

I think Catchings is an interesting one to watch - being the oldest, and being that she had that foot injury last season, one might think that maybe her health and/or level of play won't allow her to make the squad in 2016. But I have a feeling Catch will play virtually *forever*. I think she will surprise many observers and be the IronWoman of the team by 2016.

Who might be 'realistic possibilties' for 2016 from current [or future] collegians?

Griner...Nneka....Breanna....Diggins...Odyssey from Baylor...EDD?

I would add Bria and Kaleena to that group.

When I see Diana in London, I'll be sure to tell her that she's one of the old folks. And then I'll either duck or run. :)

But if you are wearing anything orange when you say it, no amount of ducking or running will save you!

"finished her degree credits in 2009" what does that mean?

when did the kid leave LSU and join the Skky?

if Tina Thompson, Swoopes, Cooper, Leslie and all those guy hung around "beyond their prime" I dont see why any of the old cant. I understand there's ton of pickings now but...

She's not the quickest, but I still don't think you can outrun her. ;)

Fowles entered LSU in the fall of 2004. She used her four years of eligibility for the seasons 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, and 2007-08. She was a few credits short of earning her degree in the spring of 2008; but she was drafted into the NBA and started her professional BB career in the summer of 2008. The following year she picked up the credits she needed, and was awarded her degree in May of 2009.

just didnt understand why it was mentioned... but ok!

Time to get back into training! :)

And I never wear orange. I would have been conflicted if Princeton grad school had admitted me.

Yeah, but orange looks different with black and white stripes.
