"The United States Futures team broke out the bats on Sunday against the World Futures squad in the 2012 MLB Futures Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. by a score of 17-5.
There wasn't much pitching in this one, as the two teams combined for 22 runs and 29 hits in a barn-burner of a game.

Things were looking bright for the World Futures when the Bernie Williams-managed team scored the game's first four runs to jump out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the third.

George Brett's team battled back to tie the score in the home half of inning thanks to a two-run triple by Cincinnati Reds prospect, Billy Hamilton, followed by a throwing error and an RBI ground ball.

The U.S. team tacked on two more in the bottom of the fourth on a Tommy Joseph two-run double to take a 6-4 lead.

In the sixth inning, the World Futures closed the gap to one on an Oswaldo Arcia double, but that was as close as they would get.

The bottom half of the sixth saw an offensive onslaught from the U.S. lineup. Thirteen men came to bat, scoring nine runs to push the lead to 15-5. Manny Machado had a two-run double, Mike Olt and Jonathan Singleton drove in a run each and Nick Castellanos put an exclamation point on the inning with a three-run bomb to center field.

Wil Myers drove in his third run of the day on a seventh-inning single, then scored on an error by second baseman Chih Fang Pan to give his team a 17-5 lead and cap the scoring for the day.

Boston Red Sox prospect Matt Barnes got Chih Fang Pan to ground out to second to clinch the win for the U.S. team.

More good stuff for recruiting. Right now we have 3 alumni that have really good shots at being in the majors by the start of the 2014 season or earlier (certainly earlier for Olt, probably earlier for Barnes, who knows how the Astros will do things with Springer - they suck so I'm sure he could get some At Bats next year). Program continues to have a bunch of positive stuff going for it.
