This a totally unfair comparison. Like him or not, if there is no Calhoun, there is no nothing. Comparing Ollie to a legendary Hall of Fame Coach is going to come up short. no matter how you slice it.

Ollie is a rookie basically, he is still growing into the job. he has had proud moment, and ugly moments, and I think there will be more coming of each.

Let the guy breath, and determine what he is, or isn't, that has not been defined yet.

Coaches are measured by wins and losses, period. No one goes to the Hall of Fame because he is a good guy, the players love him, etc. They go because they were above and beyond the ordinary, IN WINS!

Like any other leader, your only as good as those you surround yourself with, including the players. Everyone was praising last year's incoming class, and the MAL catch for this year, unfortunately, circumstances of Ollie's own doing, or not his own doing, have changed the calculus.

Our team has not been fully assembled yet, so let's see what the roster looks like in October, and let's get a feel for how that roster is performing come January, then March. let's see how the 2018 class starts stacking up.

To his credit, Ollie never used the injuries as an excuse. It was Murphy's law this year, what could go wrong did, and those circumstances kept piling on. perhaps the bleeding has stopped now. All it will take to get everyone on board is one big recruit, and the narrative, for the moment will take a breather.

I'm not a fan of Calhoun, his personality was a bit rough, I am a fan of what he did here, for he changed everything, for that I love the guy.

I'm not in or out of the Ollie camp, not an apologist, or a naysayer. I love some of the things he has done, and question some others. He has a chance to answer some of the questions I have, I'm patient enough to wait for those answers. he has of his own doing, or just of bad circumstances, now gone under the microscope, he knows this, we will see what he has got soon.

I'm not sure anyone is realistically expecting Ollie to be Calhoun. There will be growing pains with someone who's never been a head coach before.
But there are very legitimate concerns when 2 staff members are let go and 4 players get up and peace out in the span of a week. That doesn't happen to new head coaches, as far as I know.
I'm not exactly sure what your point is but if you are just saying we shouldn't compare Ollie and Calhoun then, well, yes.

However, this is UConn after all, we have high expectations and it's more than fair to apply pressure on Ollie, especially after the horrendous year the programs just had.

But I agree, I am in the camp that Ollie has earned the right to show that he can dig out of this mess after some unfortunate breaks last year.

Nobody compares to Jim Calhoun, so you create a thread comparing Ollie to Calhoun. You're a strange guy, Russ.

Your right, but read the posts here, many do it, Calhoun this, Ollie that, time to put it to rest, agreed...and was the reason for the post

Saw the Subject line, and thought RUSS might be reporting on a lawsuit. No such luck. Just another clickbait tease, with characteristically bad writing. I'm increasingly open to the possibility that he dumbens on purpose to disguise his motives.

@RUSS56 - I replied to one of your original threads last week SOLEY because your post had tried comparing tactics of Calhoun vs Ollie...and now you complain now that too many people try to compare the two??

Your original post on "UConn...the real story":

"I've watched kids from the state, that seldom got away under Calhoun, slip through without much notice. Dunn to Providence, Heron to Auburn (leading scorer as a freshman), Diallo to KY, etal. This simply didn't happen under Calhoun, or at least as frequently. He shut the door on the Pressley's, the Pinnone's, the Jenson's as Rollie used to camp out in CT, he slammed that door shut."

My response:
"Anyway, while I agree with a number of points (conference and recruiting, attendance), I do want to throw out my take on a couple. #1 - You, and so many others, like to throw out the comparison of " JC would never" or "JC did it this way"... People need to stop comparing JC to KO. They are inherently linked through the UConn brand, but as a coach, they could not be more dissimilar."

Written evidence of your philosophical inconsistencies...

Careful readers will note that he's not making a comparison between Ollie and Calhoun. Instead, he has written that his act of comparing itself is going to come up short. If the RUSS is trolling for pay to put food on the table, I can't begrudge him for needing follow-up work now that the Presidential election cycle has altered the paid social media comments landscape, but, any other answer to the query, "Then why bother?" makes no good sense.
