What can they do now? Vonleh committed early, and can't see any extension helping til the Spring. Any chance they land Brandon & Bell vs powerhouses like PC & the Ducks? Have Susan, give the boys a call to relax their minds. "Ollie's our guy, did you watch ESPN Friday"

Would absolutely love a class of Facey, Samuel, Bell and Austin.........guys who come in to a veteran team, learn their craft and grow while hopefully carving out minutes and starting their own legacies as KO's first class.........think you have something there Gem.....:D

I am amazed at how a few years ago, we were talking about the great 2 years of New England recruiting.
And somehow, I don't know how, UConn managed to land only 2 of these kids:

Andre Drummond
Shabazz Napier
Kris Dunn
Ricky Ledo
Noah Vonleh
Wayne Selden
Nerlens Noel
Kuran Iverson
Khem Birch
Alex Murphy
Naadir Tharpe
Kaleb Tarcewski
Mitch McGary
Angel Nunez

I thought we'd land more, and that it would be a good cushion for Calhoun's departure. Granted, UConn didn't even offer kids like Birch, and Iverson is questionable, but I just thought we'd land more.

Times have changed, kids have people "assisting" them with their college choice.......ESPN doing 60 minute Kentucky basketball programs doesn't help and it was Duke prior to that.........

You forgot Erik Murphy on that list...........Is Alex Murphy hurt again this year after the redshirt because he didn't get a minute in the first game for Duke?? I know having talked to his parents they were not big JC fans, some of the reasons were nonsense and their dad is a friend. Funny how things change actually so having heard first hand from a family I respect, I now know even the supposed intelligent families can have the wool pulled over their heads in smothering fashion.........they were infatuated with K but if their kid doesn't play will they still be? Their youngest may be the best so stay tuned!!......6'7" and 13 yrs old loaded with game and IQ already.........obviously Jay was a BC great, a few years NBA and overseas where he met mom in Belgium, then a guard on the national hoops team..........2 pretty smart bball people and the things they felt about JC and his style were ridiculous..........again respected friend but made sure they knew I was not at all in agreement. And I'm usually quiet....

Just a sampling of what's happening out there and it's called negative recruiting..........no detail, use your imagination!

I think Ollie will be able to overcome that sort of thing, through sheer force of his personality.

The bigger question is, will New England continue to produce excellent bball players as it has the last few years? Good to see there's one Connecticut boy coming along.

Timing...
Had this caliber of recruits happened 1-2 years earlier or later I think it would be different. Uconn's going through some change right now and that isn't what recruits want to deal with, especially in a limited 3-4 year window.

We talk about kids every year and 98% of them do not make it to UCONN. Boat, DD- they came out of no where. Who knows what or who we will wind up with to fill out the class. I am hoping we get either Anderson or Bell.

I'd hard to land quality big men. Losing Voleh hurts, he could have helped push us to top 5 next year. Hopefully Facey comes in ready to play 10-15 mins and Wolf & Nolan can contribute consistently. Fortunately we can go long stretches with DD @ the 4 and TO @ the 5.

Ive noticed over the years that recruits dont really value "playing close to home" that high. In state kids sometimes are an exception like it was with Drummond. As far as the other New England kids, i dont think UConn has an advantage just because they are in the same region. Cable companies have many options as far as sports packages which makes it easy for families to see their kids play even if they went to a school in another time zone.

If kids actually valued playing close to home Kentucky wouldn't get ANYBODY.:D
