Gabby or Aubrey? You are picking your team. Which do you take. Proven vs potential. I’m biased. Potential means you haven’t done squat yet! So until you do, you can not be called 2.0 of anything or anyone! I’m going with Gabby.1!

I mean would anyone pick Aubrey? It could change in the future but at the current time it’s absolutely no contest right?

I agree. So why are some calling her Gabby 2.0?

I agree. So why are some calling her Gabby 2.0?

Because Geno RECENTLY said in an interview, that she is 100 times better than last year.

Many of us expect her to make a huge sophomore leap. If Geno has any credibility, it sounds like she has. That answers your question.

That said, I‘m rolling with my brethren from Missouri right now. I can always change my mind on this question later.

But.............I want to remind you that I began to drink Aubrey’s koolaid toward the end of the season, and I continue to do so.

Whether she starts or comes off the bench, she’s going to make plays on both ends of the court, and get starter’s type minuets. Don’t concern yourself with her. When they toss the ball up to begin the game, she’ll be ready.

At this point in her career Gabby certainly has the edge in experience and physical development over Aubrey. But in the words of Lee Corso, “Not so fast!” I watched Aubrey 4 times in HS, and she has the potential to be a better all-around offensive player than Gabby. Aubrey is a very capable 3-pt shooter. Once she gains some confidence at the college level (this year?) she may just start to light it up.

Like Gabby, Aubrey is also a great athlete and excellent passer with a tremendous first step who can beat defenders off the dribble and take the ball to the basket.

It really all comes down to how well Aubrey’s shot develops at the college level. Defenders laid off Gabby, never fully respecting her outside shot. If Aubrey can consistently knock down her outside shot, she will be impossible to guard.

Gabby or Aubrey?
I'm going with Aubrey, He has more potential. Confidence issues don't plague Aubrey as they hampered Gabby. "He told me that the only person that holds me back is myself, and if I can have confidence in what I do I'll be fine." Gabby Williams on Geno Auriemma's parting words to her when she left UConn.

Too soon to even have this conversation - maybe not even reasonable to compare the two. In addition to an unproven offense, Aubrey is no where near the rebounder Gabby was. Gabby excelled as an inside player. Aubrey is one of the best in college basketball disrupting guards and small forwards.

The Gabster. She was a once in a generation player. I had a chance to see her play a couple of times at Storrs and it was like a sapling rising above the tall timbers. She out rebounded players six inches taller and several pounds heavier. I have never seen a player her size dominate like that and the opposing players were not from the "LIttle Sisters Of The Poor" variety.

You have to compare them at the same points in their career. Asking if I want third year pro Gabby or rising sophomore Aubrey is just silly.

Do you want freshman Gabby or freshman Aubrey?

At this point, that's all you can really compare and, on paper, they look fairly similar.

Despite the fact that they are both outrageously athletic, I see them as two different players. Gabby is stronger and more physical, capable of playing inside and matching up with post players. Aubrey is quicker, and excels at defending players on the perimeter. Also see Aubrey as ending up as the better outside shooter.

While I agree that Gabby is stronger and more physical right now, I’m not sure that Aubrey is any less capable of matching up with opposing BIGs, as she did a number of times last season, as a backup to Liv. Aubrey is taller than Gabby, and she has great lower body strength, allowing her to body up well against much bigger players. One of the season highlights, imo, was Aubrey’s block on TN’s 6’5” center.

Much like Gabby, I think Aubrey will be able to guard all 5 positions on the floor before she’s done. If she can earn enough PT on this exceptionally deep UConn roster, I see Aubrey as a potential DPOY, just like Gabby.

LOL I started to read and rushed to the freshman stats before seeing your post. It was clear that they had similar freshman years.
It's funny reading that Williams was better against bigs while Griffin is a perimeter defender. Griffin is bigger than Williams so I'd expect the opposite.

This thread is just another example of people judging a final product from the past against a rookie. They always forget that their old heroines weren't as good as they remember when they were freshman.

Griffin may be taller, but I remember Gabby completely neutralizing Aja Wilson when she played against her.

Griffin may turn out really good. But she's got a long ways to go to get to Williams level. Gotta remember Williams ended up UCONN top 10 career in Rebounds, shooting %, and steals. Also her Jr/Sr year she posted 190/191 assists. That's top 10 single season with Bird, DT, Jefferson, Rizzotti and Montgomery.

Gabby also had a long way to go after her freshman season.

Even Gabby has the famous quote that she "wished she had given the coaches reasons to play her more" as a freshman. Griffin has work to do but I see no reason she won't get to the same place.
She doesn't have to be a Williams clone.
Sometimes this board reminds me of an extended family that gets together whenever another child is added and spends hours arguing who the child looks like as if they are worried about who the father is. ;)

I think the better question is do you take sophomore Gabby or sophomore Aubrey. I go with Aubrey on that question.

Gabby didn't really become Gabbulous in my opinion till junior year. Aubrey has already shown she can hit an outside shot and I think that shot will become routine this year.

Now if you ask the unfair question of sophomore Aubrey versus just graduated Gabby, then I go with Gabby.
