Economic sense = an acceptable risk adjusted return on the invested capital. Unless a public entity will spend the capital for this as something for the public good. And we all know this is never going to happen in Connecticut.
agree, until people stop parroting what won't happen, and instead, be the change!

Connecticut is my home (even though I live in South Florida), and is one of the most amazing & open places to do any kind of business to this day, imho and experience

vs.

oh, say NYC, the city that supposedly never sleeps ... until 2017, NYC had a ban on dancing in unlicensed venues (say that again, slowly) ... raise one's hand if ya knew this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_Cabaret_Law

... meanwhile, any bloke like me could book a venue in CT, for any purpose, and business owners loved us

I miss CT, but not the negative status quo

Hoping this is a great step, for all things discussed in this thread

Could Hartford become a vibrant college town? The city’s mayor believes so
DR, between the Main and Pratt (2026) locations for resident housing, I guess the Uconn Hartford plan is moving right next to buildings we both did business in. Funny thing is, I was walking over past the 515 Main St. property yesterday, just as the news crews where gathering for the ribbon cutting.

I guess the Hartford campus continues to grow... "with nearly 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students at UConn Hartford " They've also picked up property on Main St. south of the resident space too. ( UConn Health’s Health Disparities Institute at 241 Main St. )

ha, will search the archives for some Muni gems too

I've been meaning to ask you, are you making it up for the Duke game?
I'm a definite-maybe for that game ... went last year to Durham, but every week this November is stacked! .... definite for 11/15 Boston and 11/22 in Boca Raton (South Florida Alumini Network & Fans Stand Up!) ... and maybe 11/28 @ MSG, but doubtful given the start time

*edit/add - just recalled this DM from my dear leaders

anyone remember when A Taste of Hartford raged all sides of Constitution Plaza, for 3-4 days/nights straight?

What many say can't be done in Hartford, has been done, just didn't work out ...

IYKYK ... Spris (cross w/ Best Pizza in CT thread), Constitution Plaza ... previously the Gayle King Studios building ... at the time, had 2 locations, same owners Hartford & South Beach Miami ... Hartford location closed late-2000s, 3 South Florida locations open to this day

Hartford’s Spris restaurant closes
Hartford Business Staff
November 12, 2010

Spris Restaurant in downtown Hartford’s Constitution Plaza shuttered its doors this week.

A message on the restaurant’s phone-answering machine Friday confirmed the closing.

“We appreciate all your business and thank you very much,” the message said.

The Italian-style restaurant closed after about nine years in business.

The closing of Spris comes just a few weeks after the city announced that it will move the annual Festival of Light holiday display out of Constitution Plaza and into Bushnell Park.

“The restaurant business is one of the toughest businesses and Spris had a great run,” said city spokeswoman Sarah Barr. “The city looks forward to future development occurring to spur new business opportunities.”

1. that's why I typed "could have been"
2. as many as Indianapolis ... building more hotels is an option too, but only executed by visionaries that put actions to dreams, and squash doubters

#2 shows how little you know.
this post appears not to have aged well

+1.....Yeah you were alot more mobile than me.... won't forget your events at the new Uconn Hartford (Times/Dagny's) back in the day and Braza among others ! But I guess that's was "my joy"of being locked in owning a Hartford venue, LOL!... though I did have some fun along the way producing/promoting one offs at some of the bigger CT rooms like the Jai Lai, Civic Center, NH Coliseum and CT Expo Center. 😉

... Springfield, MA

... and the other Civic Center up North!

any videos from Boppers, J.P's?
both were institutions ... never knew anyone involved w/ JPs, you?

as for Boppers (great Friday Happy Hour buffet) ... found an old full page ad from the Hartford Advocate, when Boppers changed to Metro, great times!

I don't know about JPs. I remember Boppers and maybe a place called Jaspers? This was mid-late 80s. Both played White Lines a lot and lots of girls trying to look like Susanna Hoffs, which I had no issue with.

found some more ... got 75+ noise complaints on this event ... after the 20th, the Hartford Police just stayed at the event and partied with us, ha

story of the 80s and 90s

Great find, I could add plenty to this story since I owned the Muni until I sold it to developer Carlos Mouta ( the new Parkville Market, etc.)
I must say DR. Robert McKay was a great guy. He was the actual owner and backer of his brother Dave ( also the creator of the Russian Lady" brand . Bob even told me his story about being one of the "Jonathan the Husky" caretakers while he was at Uconn in his younger days.

One the flip side, let just say another family member who never owned a thing... could probably have a street named after him called "One Way", LOL!

also Dagny's on Arch Street; and Mad Murphy's
Dagny's DJ here ... best nights were Thursday Happy Hour w/ Cool Runnings on the patio - 800 people through the door ... ... fun fact, Dagny's lease was $300/month (not a typo)
I don't live in the past. I had a great time at both the Greater Hartford Jazz Festival ...
In some cases, decades later, the past is the present ... e.g.

Charles Christie - is the President of the Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz
John McMann - Atlantic Records Ups John McMann and Jon Lewis to Executive VPs of Promotion
