Noticed a little tiff between the 2 tonight and saw that Olander never re entered the game. Think there's something going on between the 2?

So olander comes into the game and immediately fouls a player then turns and barks at Ollie. Picks up a second foul 5 mins later and gets yanked and pulls a little temper tantrum on the bench. Guy needs to grow up and play smarter- were gona need him come march.

It is good. If he is in the first eight rotation, we don't stand a chance at a trip ten finish

Olander got less minutes than Lenehan? Yikes. Welsh, or the other guy, pointed out that Olander needs to know his place on the team. I wondered about those comments at the time...

I would prefer Olander over Nolan as a starter. He sets better screens to open up shooters. This was brought up in a great post earlier by Champs0904. Olander will hit his free throws more consistently than Nolan. We usually don't start games that great and this would be a minor tweak that Ollie could implement.

I am not a huge Olander fan at all but some of his frustration may be warranted.

The minutes could be coincidence. Once we had the game in hand, those minutes were better for Nolan, Brimah and Facey to get the chance to develop. Kromah was out there, too - but we needed a second guard and he's still new to our system.

If Facey has another game like tonight TO really needs to step up to keep his minutes.

How I would break down minutes going forward:

Brimah 16.0 mins + 1.7 mins from 12/6 stats
Olander 12.0 mins + 3.2 mins from 12/6 stats
Facey 9.0 mins + 1.5 mins from 12/6 stats
Nolan 7.4 mins -6.4 mins from 12/6 stats

Other than Brimah it is hard to be enthusiastic about any of these guys. Olander with all his deficiencies leads the team in free throw % and on occasion has stepped up to the moment with a big play.

Olander needs to fight for his minutes in practice. If he is doing that and has a positive attitude I would start him over Nolan right now. UConn is 9-0 so the counter argument is keep the status quo in the starting lineup.

From the ESPN write up:

"A lot of us go back to the gym at night," Boatright said. "Last year, there was only a few of us that was taking the initiative and going back and working on our game. Now, it's hard to even get a rim in there, because everybody's in the gym shooting."

Great job Boat.

We were behind the hoop on the side of the UConn bench. I didn't see the TV feed and didn't hear the announcers, but when Olander picked up that foul, my buddy said to me "Look at his body language. Horrible. He just doesn't get it."

From there, Ollie harped at him a little, pulled him from the game and glared at him the entire way back to the bench. Looked like Ollie chirped something at him and he sat the rest of the way.

The cliche of the unathletic white guy being a hard worker, team player, and positive influence in practice and on the bench doesn't seem to apply to Olander.

Sometimes guys like that really are detriments in play as well as attitude.

Phil Nolan's game right now reminds me of Miss Dolley on the Gong Show:

mauconn is the judge in the red satin shirt doing the Gonging. My boy Mauconn!

Brimah is a non-entity on offense and doesn't rebound on defense. He's really good at blocking shots but that alone isn't enough. Even with our weak front court, I don't want him to be the guy seeing the most minutes.

He needs to be seeing the most minutes not for what he is right now, but for what he can become. Even if he becomes more efficient in the most very basic aspects of basketball - such as catching the ball in traffic, securing rebounds, anticipating the ball, etc. - it would be enough to take his game to another level. Brimah is a bit of a wild card, because, unlike Phil Nolan and Kentan Facey - who figure to be solid contributors throughout their career, but haven't displayed the jaw-dropping spurts of dominance -, we have no idea how steep the learning curve is going to be. He's literally been playing basketball for four years - he could be an 8 point, 6 rebound, 5 block guy by March for all we know. Hell, I've already seen impressive progressions in his game that generally take big men as inexperienced as he is a bit longer to grasp. Yes, he's a bit over-zealous at times, but his foul rate is way down from where it was earlier in the year, and rather than trying to swat everything in sight, he's picking and choosing his spots a bit better.

Yea,not a good move to bark back at your coach from the free throw line with camera on you.Despite the big 3 TO hit earlier this season I cringe when he ball fakes outside the 3 pt line knowing we are getting slaughtered on the boards. Its too bad he couldnt develop his handle and become more of a threat like old school Laimbeer to draw opponents big man out,but even the we lack the bulk and strength to take over the boards.

and Ollie has been pretty vocal in his support of TO since he got back on the team after his off the court missteps/stupidity. Hopefully Olander apologized to KO before they even got back on the bus.

Strange, because he started on a national championship team two years ago.
You three are dreaming or drinking kool aid. That was a magical team carried by one special player. They peaked. Tyler knew his role and provided minutes. Tyler's role this year should be similar, other than providing experience off the bench (like the Florida game when Brimah was overwhelmed ). He should play eight minutes max and pound the boards. Maybe a garbage basket. Yet he comes in follows his man outside than fouls him when he blows by him. I like the kid, but repeat if he is playing major minutes, we are no better than 15-20.

Have to disagree here. Nolan is more active and does little things better. Let's not get crazy about the job Tyler did on the very non-athletic Young the other night. Patric is huge and strong but let's not equate that to a scoring sensation because the fact he doesn't do anything but left-right and it helped the very slow and lethargic TO look good. Hey he did a good job on a perfect match up that night.....last night he comes in and looks like the chair he actually is, gets some crap from KO to move his feet I'm sure and barks back? Nope can't happen and shows the person he may actually be......the first guy went by the UConn defender and he came to help (nice job) in plenty of time and he then proceeded to turn sideways rather than take a charge or just stay straight up (he tends to do this and for a big man this is on the pu**y side), he fouled the guy and bitched to the ref and was told to shut up he was wrong.....and he was, he fouled the guy. Welsh was correct here's kid that thinks he should be playing more and doesn't know his actual role.......if he continues end the partnership soon!
