So who was the root of the issues with the team chemistry? Is it an individual or group thing? Napier, boatright, AO or lamb...the reason i ask is because calhoun has brought it up a few times in the past and napier is quoted saying it a bunch of times this weekend.... i have my money on olander

Olander is divisive. I heard he wants to play the point so he can get to the league.

Huh Olander? Not sure what you are asking.........the poison is gone and the chemistry will be a huge turnaround. may not result in wins but they will have more fun as a TEAM for the first time since the title!!

Calhoun.
He destroyed the team chemistry early in the season by benching Scoe and relegating AO. It's really that simple.
Scoe was the heart and soul of the inside guys. He epitomized UConn toughness. He sustained an iconic eye injury during "The Run." He was tougher 'n nails when we needed it. For that, he was benched in favor of a guy who only committed to the team a few months before. That guy was an unproven frosh who ended up having a fairly sizable dud of a first season.
AO was the inside anchor on the team during The Run. His reward for that was being put 2nd on the depth chart behind another johny-come-lately who was almost certainly a one and done and who ended up having a so-so season. His minutes were also cut.

Last year was on Calhoun.

He didn't give Scoe and AO any deference for what they had already put in at UConn, and they returned the favor.

Easily Alex Oriakhi. He was the freaking captain and showed more effort on twitter than going for rebounds. Napier always gave a 100% even if he didn't get along with teammates. And can you really blame him for not passing to AO aka stone hands ?

He pretty much made the decision to blast Calhoun and quit (transfer) in October last year. I'm happy he's not around to contaminate the guys that stayed like DD.

Definitely not Napier.

- this team never really had the chance to gel due to NCAA infractions and eligibility (Boatright). Also, I agree more so with what "dapriest" mentioned above. & while Drummond has shown flashes of great athleticism throughout the season, it may have left us blind to that fact that he himself was also a project and didn't know how to truly play the Center position.

FTR, none of us are around the team on a daily basis, so it's impossible for any of us to know for sure.

Still, from what someone told me, a lot of team members had more of an issue with Napier off the court than Oriakhi on the court.

All I know is what I saw in games and read. I saw Alex give no effort, and I read him crying on a weekly basis...

prob because Napier hates to lose and with the team he had, I don't blame him. As he said, he let things get to his head. Understandable ...

For all his faults, Alex is still a very likable person. He's a really funny person with a great personality. Everybody on the team liked him. Again, this is just based off of what someone told me, so it could be wrong. Still, this guy would probably know.

Napier seems to be someone who is a lot tougher to get along with, because he can be moody. There was an article a few months ago where Borges said in the comments section that the divide on the team was based off of the backcourt. I'll see if I can find it.

I found it:

From a commenter: Why does Calhoun have to announce he is coming back every year? Why cant people just assume he'll be back for the remainder of his contract until he announces otherwise?

Also im sure the problem had to do with napier and boatright or napier and lamb. Lamb's body language this year was awful.

True, he doesn't have to announce it, but let's be honest, there is speculation about his status after every season, for good reason: health, age, and now the NCAA tourney ban for next year. People around the program whose jobs could hinge on whether or not Calhoun returns still don't know.

As for the problem, one of those two combinations is correct. I'll leave it at that.

the chemisty issues wern't the usual ones. it was different. these kids were mostly all friends and good to each other. the issue was on the court, our 3 guards knew that the big guys each had there own issues, aos hands, ads 3rd grade shot form etc. as result the guards were trying to win by themselves at times which led to the throw the ball around and take deep shots is the best way to win approach. fresh start for us now.

for the record, scoe was benched because of some classroom issues for 1 or 2 games and he sat most of a 3rd(didnt start for). scoe did that to himself and the team.

I read that article before and what I took from it the guards and big guys didn't get along. Where do you get that Napier was the problem? He is Coach C's favorite, and had the responsibility of getting the babies like Oriakhi in line. Bottom line, the personalities just didn't work. You had tough guys like Bazz, Boat, Giff - indifferent guys like Lamb and Drummond - and then a whiner/coward Oriakhi. That combination doesn't work. Kemba was more of a politician as captain and did a great job with AO. Napier is a no nonsense guy and didn't appreciate AO's constant cheap shots at the team and program..

It's clear as day in the comments from Borges that Napier, Boatright, or Lamb was the issue. Based off of what I have heard, I think it was Napier.
