“We’re in new territory,” said Auriemma, who has coached the Huskies to 11 national titles. “We haven’t been here in a long time… We’re in a situation that we haven’t been in, and it’s going to take some time to shake it all out. But, as I said, we have our moments when it looks like it could work.”

“We can’t be complicated. We can’t expect to be really, really good at three or four different things defensively,” Auriemma said. “We’re going to have to get really, really good at one thing and then within that one thing we’re going to have to kind of zig and zag and hide whatever our deficiencies are and I think it’s going to be OK. I think it’s going to be OK. Like I said, it’s going to be a different look. It doesn’t mean it’s going to be bad, it’s just going to be different.”

“...Our team knows we’re going to have to work harder than these kids have ever worked since they’ve been at Connecticut to try to accomplish some of the same things that we’ve accomplished,” Auriemma said. “And they know that and, to be honest with you, they’re acting like it which is good.”

It is pure "coach speak" (not a shocker) but I am semi-fluent in coach speak so I will give it a stab.

Here is what he would tell people at a fund raiser in Philly without phones recording his true thoughts.

1. We have three of the top 25 players in America. Two in the top ten.
2. Our other two starters are former number one ranked high school players.
3. Our other six have question marks. Some many more than others.
4. We lost three first round draft choices including two of the best defenders in the nation.
5. To compete at the level our fan base is accustomed to, we have to stay healthy and find two bench players that can provide valuable minutes in big games.
6. Our staff is really enjoying not being the top dog.
7. I will be glad when recruiting is over so I can focus all of my energy to these kids.

In other words, he is carefully not saying anything that we don't know already. He just says it more enjoyably than almost any other coach.
