While researching the probability of 90+ points per game, I studied the last 26 years of statistics across D1. And since 1999-2000 season, UConn has led D1 in scoring 9 (NINE) times, was top 10- 20 times, and top 15, 25 of 26 seasons, Heck in 2005, UConn in its worst scoring season was 17th. For top 15 in yearly scoring: #2 is Mulkey with 21 seasons (Baylor 18/LSU 3), #3rd-Tara with 16 #4th-Brenda Frese with 14 (including 2 in the top 10 all time-2017/2021) #5th is a tie with Pat Summitt, Doug Bruno and Muffet McGraw with 12. #8 Sylvia Hatchell of UNC fame with 11 #9 Jeff Walz with 10 #10 Sherri Coale with 9 #11 Gail Gostenkors with 8 (all at Duke) #11 Dawn Staley also with 8 (all with SC) #11 Jen Baranczyk also with 8 (5 at Drake, 3 at Oklahoma) #14 Lisa Bluder with 7 (all with Iowa) #14 Vic Schaefer with 7 (4 at MSU, 3 at Texas) Some were a bit surprising to me as Pat was never accused of being offensive scoring minded (though many a UConn fan found her and her fan base offensive ) Sylvia Hatchell was a bit surprising to me (though not sure I should be). Vic as the master of defense as also a surprise. The most pleasant surprise to me was Jen Baranczyk with 8 appearances and long career ahead of her. UConn as a school ranked #1 in total appearance in the top 15 with 25 Baylor #2 with 20 Stanford #3 with 16 Tennesse #4 with 15 Maryland and ND #5 with 14 DePaul and Oklahoma #7 with 12 Duke and UNC #9 with 11 (sorry @triaddukefan you always be forever linked with your rival!) There were some mid-majors who regularly appeared Drake-6 Gonzaga-6 Troy-6 Florida Gulf Coast-6 South Dakota State Jackrabbits-4 (I just like that nickname so I included it!) While time consuming, I did enjoy this deep dive and found it interesting and affirming. It solidifies why Geno preaches defense so relentlessly as he knows the offense will be there. Feel free to ask questions.
