OC/OL Coach Gordon Sammis > Broyles Award Nominee

Wait I thought he wasn’t a good OC? (Snark intended)
I thought that, then I watched some replays and I honestly thing he's been the best OC we've had in a while. If the Evers hit half of his throws, i'm Sure Sammis would be a shoe in.

-> Honor for Sammis

UConn offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Gordon Sammis has been nominated for the Broyles Award, which honors the nation’s top assistant coaches. Sammis was among 65 nominees chosen from more than 1,500 coaches. A select committee off football writers, broadcasters, Hall of Fame selectors and head coaches will eventually choose semifinalists, finalists and the winner. … Lundt, who has accepted an invitation to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, will train in Minnesota following the season before heading to Mobile, Ala., for the Feb. 1 game. This has proven valuable to some of Lundt’s former linemates now in the NFL, including Matt Peart, Ryan Van Demark and Christian Haines <-

I'll be honest, I was not excited about the hire and felt we just settled for the cheap option. I'm still not in love but I've been impressed with the offense. We're one solid QB away from being a team that can beat, not just compete, with low end P4 teams. Credit to Sammis for getting the offense to that point. Hopefully we can use some new found NIL to get a QB or hope Welliver becomes the QB we all hope he can be.

they awarded 25% of all the DC/OCs in college football. While good this is not that good.

edit: I've already forgotten the last guy's name... it should point out just terrible he was.

Why do you have to be that guy.

I’ll admit that when the promotion happened in the spring, I thought here we go again - cheap hire, unproven, stretched thin. He’s been really good and shows signs he will expand the playbook in time.

Now, after all that, I could argue he’s not the best coordinator we have. Feel like we have a very strong staff and I pray we run them back in 25.

I think we’re a good QB away from the top 25. I’m really impressed with the program overall.

This!

We're #47 in scoring offense (31 points per game). That's with QB play that we can all agree has been lacking.

Imagine if we got excellent QB play?? If we increased our scoring 10 points per game, we would be the #2 scoring offense in the nation...

He seems to know how to get the most out of the players. You can see throughout the year he was able to adapt the offensive schemes to give them the best chances to make plays. I've been very impressed by him.

Actually it’s 22%. 9 of the coaches aren’t OC or DC’s..

I've been a fan of the Sammis hire since day 1. There are still some aspects of our offense that I don't agree with or understand, but geez we are at the very least competent, borderline good. Tremendous upgrade from abysmal. Not bad for a first year guy with limitations at the most critical position.

For a first year OC to be on the list for Broyles shows that we might actually have a keeper. And he's willing to adjust so I think he's just going to get better and better.

I didn't actually see his name. Am I losing it?
I looked it up on the the Broyles award website which list the stats from last year to this year and geez we are SOOO much better. The future is bright.

Like everyone else I had no idea what to expect from Sammis and had plenty of scar tissues from previous internal hires promoted up to coordinator.

By the 3rd game of the season, it was obvious Sammis was drawing up plays which got the playmakers in position. Horrible passes from QB's and some horribly untimely drops by WR's has cost UConn two games this year.

Offense is in really good shape with Sammis drawing up plays and calling them during the game.

Who pissed in your fruit loops dude? Regardless of how you feel about the award, it's an honor to be nominated.
When you nominate people... dude. 1 of 8 is an honor. 1 of 65 is a bus

For all the ups and downs we had at QB this year, a top 35 offense is truly amazing. We’ve been looking for these point totals for years. Now if we can just get ourselves solid QB play next year, we could be looking at even better numbers. It’s nice to have a competent offense again

More like. There was no other option and we were lucky to get a QB coach. The timing was brutal.
