Here's an interesting view... granted we aren't OK State and we don't have Uncle T. Boone but does make sense.
Mike Gundy explains when he'll hire an offensive coordinator

Mike Gundy isn't in a rush.
With Todd Monken having left for Southern Miss, Gundy again needs to find a new offensive coordinator. But he's going to take his time.
Gundy himself called the plays in a 58-14 win over Purdue in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. He said the Cowboys' offensive system isn't going to change with a new coordinator, but while on SiriusXM College Sports Nation, he explained why he waits for the dust to settle in other places before making a hire.
"I've always waited until the middle or end of January or even gone into February," he said. "What happens with so many job turning over in the NFL now - as of last Monday, I believe 22 percent of the coaches were let go in the NFL - it trickles down into our level now more so than it ever has before, with coordinators moving. It's become such a coaching carousel out there, what I don't want to do is hire a coach that I think can continue with what we're doing on offense, because we're not going to change our style (and then he leaves).
"We've been in this situation now, this will be our fourth time in seven years, so we're not going to change what we do. What I don't want is to hire a quality coach, introduce him, let him become a part of the staff, get him on the road recruiting, and then somebody in the NFL says, 'That's the guy we want' and pay a million dollars and take him from me. I could go find another coach, but the impression is not really what Oklahoma State wants.
"I have to be as patient as possible. To be honest, I've got to wait for some of these NFL guys to make decisions on what they're going to do, and then I'll move after that."
