NYT article on Paige: A Basketball Star Is Born

While I am always happy to see coverage of Paige, I am frustrated that the New York Times, to which I am a longtime subscriber, did not find any room in the sports section of its Monday print edition for coverage of the women's national championship game. They did, however, manage a two-page spread previewing the men's NCAA championship to be played that night. (I say this with the caveat that perhaps there was coverage of the game in other editions, but given the fact that I live in Connecticut, I suspect that if any market were going to get coverage of UConn's national championship victory, mine likely would have been it.)

I know Paige is noted for her fashion, so I'm not surprised to see this article on her in the Style section, but she, her teammates, and the young women of South Carolina deserved to be in the sports section this week as well.

Do you get the Waterbury-Republican? You can O.D. on UCONN/Paige coverage, although it's always 24 hours late. A whole week of stories...

On Monday 4/7, the Wall St Journal had a front page photo of UConn players celebrating. It also had an article of the win in its daily one-page sports section. I will attempt to attach it.

WSJ also had an article on Paige the week prior.

Thank you both! We get the NYT and the Hartford Courant. The Courant is pretty reliable in covering the women's and men's basketball teams. Glad to hear the Waterbury-Republican is as well. I was very happy to see UConn on the cover of the WSJ. Now that's what I'm talking about! :)

This morning's NY Times also had an article about Paige as a SIXTH-GREADER! She was spotted by a photographer who promptly compared the elfin Bueckers to Di (then a star at UConn). Huh?
The comparison attracted little attention until the girl herself began to shine. Then the post was heralded as prescient, which it was.
I dare not give you the link to the Times, but it features a pic of Paige in elementary school. She is so tiny that she is barely visible to the naked eye. When Buckets first arrived at Storrs, curious people tried to spot her and could not believe that the skinny waif they saw was the vaunted best player in girl's bb.
I must admit that in spite of Paige's muscle flexing, she really doesn't look much older today.
Well, we all know about books and covers: can't tell one from the other.
