He was done 15 years ago, he just didn't know it then. How much "institutional control" has been missing in that time. Lots of bad stuff was coming out of that program.

End of season. To leave before would be to leave in ignominy. He has done an enormous amount of good there.

They should have security escort him out of the building after calling the media to film it. Ignominy is a small price to pay for what he did.

All the good he did is outweighed by what he neglected to do here. He and the others in power were enablers for a monster and because of it more children were harmed. Paterno and the others cared about protecting the reputation of the University and never cared about the victims, I'm so disgusted by this.

Unfortunately, opposing crowds will probably boo Paterno and might take out their anger on the PSU players. That wouldn't be fair to them.

Rumor is that the Board of Trustees asked for Paterno's resignation today and he refused.

Here's Randy Edsall's chance at his dream job. Oh wait - he already got that.

With the public momentum building the way it is you now start to wonder if the team will be able to finish the season. What kind of effort can the players give with so many conflicting thoughts and feelings swirling around? All the coaches are likely telling them not to let events they had nothing to do with get in the way of the job at hand. Well, that's easy enough...

I don't think it's about protecting the reputation of the school. There's something else involved. Remember, 1998 when he was a coach was reported to the authorities. Also remember that this story came out already 3 years ago. It may have been treated as a non-story if it were only about Sandusky. Clearly, it didn't make national news back then.

What makes this national news is the behavior of Paterno and the other 4 men. That's why we're here today. That's what's new about this. It's not about the guy who should be in jail for the rest of his life.

They apparently didn't bother to find out the names of the children. Joe should be frog walked out of his house.

I'm sure Ol' Joe Pa never thought he would leave in more disgrace than Woody Hayes.

Just reminded me of that classic quote.

Tom Bradley's been waiting for this job for some time now... the reason the UCONN opening was of no interest to him....

one of my first thoughts upon hearing this was how Edsall's real dream job would be opening up, they'd almost have to go outside the program, and his sterling reputation as a disciplinarian and moral man would have made him a serious contender, if not the frontrunner. and he's thrown it all away for a likely firing from Maryland in two years. what goes around comes around i guess.

Since this is in the board of trustees' hands, I believe there is going to be a total house cleaning at PSU. If Paterno is out, so is his staff. The cleaning will most likely include the AD and the president.

Let us not forget that people are innocent until proven guilty. That is our basis of law. None of us know the entire story, only what is being printed and talked on all the sports shows. There is much more yet to come. And because of the legalities, don't expect PSU to say anything.

I am not defending Sandusky or anyone else. The acts are horrible and a breech of trust. But we must allow our legal system to do its job.

If this is the end of Joe Paterno at PSU, it is a terrible way to be remembered. Most of all the good he has done will be lost in this. Very sad.

A) I think Bradley wanted the Pitt job a lot more than UConn, which is what turned the UConn people off.

B) No one associated with Penn State from the last 20 years will be hired as the next Head Coach. They are definitely going outside the program for this hire.

As I understand it, the grand jury has been investigating for the last three years. And there is the added twist of the Attorney General who neglected to bring charges after the first incident came to light who vanished several years ago.

Paterno has to go.

He was told to interview for the Temple job last year.

Paterno has to go.

It made the papers three years ago when he was assistant coach of a high school football team. The investigation began there and was reported all over Pennsylvania.

This has been a common theme on the PSU boards for 3 years. Only this summer was it mentioned that it was about to get really ugly, and by that PSU fans assumed that meant he had molested many many kids.

Few had an idea there was a cover-up.

Do you have some links? Anything? I find what you are saying to be incredibly hard to believe. Given that we all live in a fish bowl now, I would think that if someone of Sandusky's stature was being investigated for this and it was out there in the media then it wouldn't have been a surprise.

I just tried a search. Guess what happened? A million articles popped up. I limited the dates to pre-2010 and still I get a huge number of stories from this week.

The big story is Paterno, no? And the graphic nature of the allegations. What passed as sexual molestation on a high school football team was not described in the details we have now.
