Lets remove Bazz from the discussion right now. I see so many names but who is he competing against? I don't see a lot of non AAC games (really UConn) so I really don't know.

This Creighton kid seems legit. They are talking about Parker, and the UCLA guard. Somehow that Cincy guard is getting little respect and Ennis has somehow entered the discussion.

For those that watch a lot of basketball who is good and who is overrated? Again this topic is not to justify Bazz just objectively (if possible) evaluating the college landscape (i.e. other players).

I'm just getting ready to watch the Tourney(s) and looking for boneyarder's opinions on who to watch come March and April. For some reason this season I have been lacking in watching outsiders play.

If the season ended today McDermott would win POY, he simply puts up numbers every game and is carrying his team. I would put Bazz next but most would say Parker.

NPOY race is over, its McDermott's. As long as the team finishes strong and Bazz plays well in the marquee games agaisnt SMU/Cincy/Louisville he should get 1st team AA and an automatic spot in the Husky Ring of Honor.

Title of this thread should be "Who's McDermott's Competition?"

In all seriousness, the NPOY award is already his. Love Bazz, but Doug has it in the bag.

Is he that good?

I've never seen him play, but he appears to be an Adam Morrison clone (that's not a bad thing). I guess I was moreso looking for player's to keep an eye on in March, in a backward's way of asking.

So he's a former NPOY clone...

The only question is if he is going to be unanimous pick for NPOY

He is that good. Can score from anywhere, is strong, very smart, and is going to finish his career with over 3000 career points. Not sure he'll be a great pro or not, but he's a great college player.

I would say he's far from an Adam Morrison clone. One of the main things about McDermott is his basketball IQ is off the charts. Objectively, he is a very smart basketball player. He knows how to read screens, he makes the right passes, and he is very good off the ball. His size and skill set are especially unique for the MWC which does help a guy like him. He's not just a knock down shooter like Morrison. McDermott can always sense the mismatch and in college ball he has a good nose for backing down guards and stretching out bigs depending on who is guarding him. This will be much harder for him to do on the next level when he is basically forced to change positions or is not strong enough to guard 4/5 and not fast enough to guard guards. The mismatch he has in college is likely to turn into a negative mismatch in the pros. But McDermott is really more of a true basketball player. He doesn't have this super finesse game or a power game.. it's more of a Tim Duncan style, just knows the fundamentals, knows what is or isnt a bad shot, knows when to pass and knows where to stand and how to create mismatches - couple that with a great shot from deep and slightly weaker competition and you have the perfect storm for success.

Will Shabazz be 1st team AA? That's the question.
