Notre Dame's Olivia Miles goes down with bad knee injury in game vs. Louisville

Didn't see it but read it was non-contact and saw a clip of her crying on the bench being consoled by her dad. Praying it's not a dreaded ACL...would be a brutal time for ND to lose its best player and a tough way for Miles to finish a great season.

It was ugly…. I’d be shocked to see her back

given this, with Olivia Miles's injury, amazingly so, Notre Dame is up 62-57 on Louisville with 2:04 left in the 4th quarter and with Duke going down to North Carolina this afternoon, Notre Dame has a shot of capturing the ACC regular season championship and the # 1 seed in the ACC Tournament. Sonia Citron has been AMAZING this afternoon for the Irish. If Citron doesn't make 1st Team All ACC, something is WRONG

Feel horrible for Miles. Never want to see that happen to a student-athlete

I didn’t see it. But didn’t she walk off the court without any help?

Sad for her. You can see her mouthing “oh oh ” on the ground after being hurt. Hoping for the best for her.

Greetings.
  • Looked like the dreaded non-contact injury at first, but some thought it might've been a knee to knee injury.
  • As ND came back in the 2nd half, Miles simply couldn't contain herself and stood up the rest of the half to cheer her colleagues on...wrapped in a leg-length Ace bandage...until the end of the game. The she hopped over to Citron to bear hug her after it was over.
  • ND handled Louisville's full-court pressure very well, with Citron and KK Bransford breaking the pressure with dribbiing, and then up-court passes to Maddy Westbeld and Cassan Prosper.
  • Bransford finished with 14, Cassan Prosper with 11 and Citron led the Irish offensively and defensively, scoring 17 in the 2nd half, en route to 27 overall. She and Prosper hounded Hailey Van Lith all game including Hailey Van Lith's last-second-three.
  • So, yes, ND wins ACC regular season and having that first seed means they play the early game when they do play. Subtle advantage.
  • Now, knock wood for good news for Miles and I'm not even talking about her playing. Just don't want a severe injury. Stay tuned.

GeeW is right, it doesn't mean anything. Jessica Moore tore her ACL and finished the game before she found out. And even if it's sprain or cartiladge tear, coming back with so little time in the season is a tall order.

Hoping to hear good news about Miles, but here now to praise Citron. What a player, one who's sort of lived in the shadows, yet now will have the spotlight on her... I'll bet she'll rise to the occasion.

Soni rose to the challenge today, that's for sure.

Citron was the main ball-handler against the press, ran the half-court offense and when nothing was happening, she created, along with true freshman KK Bransford. She also spent her time on defense chasing Hailey Van Lith around the court, hounding her into a 5-21 shooting game (she was aided mightily by Cassan Prosper taking shifts). Citron doesn't have Miles' ability to slice and dice through the lane in such a clever and clean manner, but she can draw fouls and started showing her pull-up jumper from the elbow today. It's clean.

I find Citron to be a very likable player and an admirable talent.

I've always enjoyed watching Olivia size up an opponent throughout the game, and then adjusting her read-and-react options not only based on what the defense is doing, but who on her team has the hot hand or the mismatch. Her smooth, floating, finger-roll lay-ups are reminiscent of George McGinness and Julius Erving back-in-the-day. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.
