Notre Dame ?

I know they are 3-1 in the conference, but have 6 losses overall. Haven't seen much about them this year. I know Abromitis is out and that they have played pretty well recently. Can anyone offer some insight as to what we are likely to see from ND tomorrow?

They aren't horrible. I don't think it will be an easy game by any stretch. If they play like they did against Seton Hall and Rutgers, they have no chance.

We have a significant advantage from a pure talent and depth perspective. But they play the way Notre Dame always seems to play - they shoot it well, they don't beat themselves, they share the ball, etc. Plus they never lose at home.

They have a bunch of solid, if unspectacular players. Atkins is a nice point guard who played well against us last year. Scott Martin has good size for a guard and can shoot it. Jack Cooley (Harangody look-alike) has a nose for the ball and can really rebound.

The key in my opinion is defending the 3. If we let them go 10-20 like Seton Hall did, we'll have a tough time.

I'm thinking that rebounding, TO's and 3 Pt % will be critical.

They do not have much size that is a plus. If they start raining threes it could be trouble.

I'll say: doom, gloom, and doom.

Let's keep it a secret that uconn snapped their 45 home game win streak in '09 (they are currently on a 30 game streak).

They are undersized: Cooley is really the only good rebounder on their team, and at just 6'9", AD and AO should have a big game rebounding.

They are not a very deep team, so if Cooley or Martin get into foul trouble, they'll be in trouble.

As mentioned above, I expect they will play mistake free ball, so uconn has to take the game from them and not play as sloppy as they've been playing to start the big east season. Uconn needs to minimize its turnovers!

AD and AO should have had big rebounding games against a lot of teams, but don't keep good position on the boards. I think Cooley (lunch-pail guy who knows his role is to hustle and to rebound) is exactly the type of player who could cause us problems.

All I know is that's its a BE road game and we haven't done well on the road to date.

Always seems like we should kill Notre Dame on the boards and be able to take care of business with them with our far more athletic players but it sure hasn't worked out that way lately. Last years two losses still stick in my craw.

We should win but its not going to be easy.

If both teams play their B game, Uconn wins going away. They have a couple of ugly losses and their wins over Pitt and UL look much less impressive than they did a the time.

Atkins is a quick, solid PG, Cooley is a lunch pail guy with limited athleticism, Grant is a very talented young, athletic wing and they have a pretty big point forward who can shoot. I have only seen them play vs. Pitt and Mizzou.

I saw ND play Maryland in the BBT Classic in DC earlier in December. They didn't look like a great team. The game was really sloppy on both ends. It seems like ND has played much better of late, so I guess it all depends on which ND team shows up. If it's the team that played Maryland, UConn should have a big advantage

Notre Dame has shown some measurable improvement on offense in January.

They're back to running the Burn. They kill clock and look for any kind of mismatch they think they can exploit, be it posting up a guard or dragging a big out to the perimeter. This is gonna test Bazz, Boat, Oriakhi and Drummond the most, as they're the ones Notre Dame will look to attack late in the shot clock in places those players won't feel comfortable. This worries me.

Win the game or not, Notre Dame is always a good team for our guys to play, because they run very good offense, slow the game down, and use all 35 seconds of the shotclock. Usually after Notre Dame games the kids look noticeably improved on the defensive end, because playing a team of this type stresses the value of each possesion.
