So I'm a hypocrite for posting about ND to get some cheap hits.

I missed this earlier regarding ND's future schedules but the real reason I'm posting is that I'd have almost zero interest in watching them play ASU in Cowboy Stadium this year. I like the College atmosphere and would rather see an actual home team and a visitor. Are we starting to overplay these neutral site games in pro stadiums? What was the point of this particular location and couldn't ND get the exposure (as if they need it) in Texas by playing one of the schools actually from Texas?

OK Here's the article sorry if it was already posted. What you're getting into by making a deal with the Irish: http://college-football.si.com/2013...notre-dame-for-reportedly-dumping-sun-devils/

“The school didn’t have the courtesy to have the athletic director (Jack Swarbrick) call the athletic director at ASU to discuss it,” Patterson said. “They had their PR guy call (ASU’s media relations office) to give us a message Friday afternoon while everybody was out of town at the Final Four. At least in the little Catholic town I grew up in — Beaver Dam, Wis. — the good nuns wouldn’t have thought that was a very appropriate way to honor your word.”

Seeing anything in Cowboys stadium is rough. Marvel of architecture sure. But I never felt as disconnected in an arena. And I was there for the SB. And the Packers won. It is just too big.

I was @ a Cowboy game on the 35 yd line 24 rows from field and found myself watching the video screen rather than live action more often than not. A ton of distractions (other than DC Cheerleaders). I'd still go back but completely understand what you are saying.

From any of the upper decks it is nearly impossible to watch the field.

Well Mark May may be too stupid to write 160 characters in proper English, yet his sentiment is correct.

Wonderful debate point for this board. . . .

If the UConn-Notre Dame series was being played as originally structured in 2008 - games at Meadowlands & Foxboro and all - would Louisville have gotten the ACC nod over UConn?

Yes. Florida State had leverage and they wanted Louisville. FSU and Clemson are the legitimate football programs in the ACC and they care the least about academics. Since Florida State could have joined the B12 with a phone call they had the leverage to select a school that values football without regard for an academic profile that the ACC used to value.

Uconn should try to make deals with everyone and anyone in the 5-have conferences, with one caveat. All UConn home games will be played at Rentschler field.

That attitude will end with a newly humble and small UCONN fan base watching home "fillers" against Vassar and Radcliffe. One thing the various kicks to the male parts we've received should have done is provide a realistic view of where we are perceived by the "big guys." To book the teams the program needs ( the SEC, Big-10, or Big-12 types) to book will take willingness and flexibility related to venue. If it were up to me, I'd make Yankee Stadium UCONN's second home. The ND crap can't be repeated. For awhile, it has to be anyone, anytime, any place; as long as it's on TV.

I'm not against expanding capacity, but that is up to the State. The stadium already loses money on paper and concession prices gouge fans. I am very interested in what Global Spectrum has planned for the venue. More events, more revenue. Make the stadium a profit center.

I believe it's been said before that UConn's contract with the State requires home football games to be played at Rentschler until 2017 or 18. If so, You'll have a hard time playing a game outside East Hartford let alone outside the state. Plus Yankee Stadium is liable to charge a obscene rent and likely not going to give up concessions.

A number of "Big Guy conference" teams play in large stadiums, but have smaller average attendance figures compared to UConn. Attendance is typically at 90% or higher of Rentschler capacity (based on tickets sold) and A recent Heisman trophy winning QB from Baylor (Big-12) is on record that Rentschler is the loudest stadium he's played at outside the truly obscenely large venues such as Nebraska and Texas.

The ND Crap was handled by Hathaway, who, by most witnesses' accounts, was in far over his head. It is more small time to sell yourself short than to kowtow to every Vanderbilt Kentucky whim.

>>"UConn has made huge progress in football. Ten years ago they didn't even have a FBS division team but until they stand up to Notre Dame, they're not big-time. Standing up to Notre Dame shows how they feel about themselves and where their program is headed. Congratulations UConn—today, you are a man!"<<

How'd that stand work out for us last time... ;)

I also believe the agreement was that if there was to be an out of state game, there still had to be 6 homes games out the Rent.

I agree with FAIRTIDES - "For awhile, it has to be anyone, anytime, any place; as long as it's on TV."

I was not clear enough. I'm not advocating that UCONN play lessor-known football programs, like Vandy or Baylor at alternate locations. Those folks and other similar programs have and will probably continue to play at the Rent. I'm talking about the type of program UCONN will have to play, and occasionally beat, to gain national recognition.

Based on enormous changes in the football business environment, UCONN should probably ask the State to readdress any legal agreement which shackles it to the Rent.

Agreed, w/2 caveats:

1. there is ONE conference, not 5. The other 4 have bandied together and are now aiming their slingshots at the SEC goliath, but until proven otherwise on the field, there is 1 power conference, 4 wannabe's, and a couple of red-headed step children running around looking for attention
2. we're not a great attraction for many, many teams - small stadium, not a lot of alumni in area, no history, not a recruiting area, not a place easy for them to get in and out of, etc. I love the idea of taking on anyone and everyone - playing the Boise angle so to speak - to increase our brand value, but I would think MANY teams would scoff at coming here on a 1:1 basis, unless we can throw a lot of carrots at them, e.g. using BB teams like we did to get Mich., TN, Ind., and others here.
