Now: is Heckel coming to Storrs?
"YES"!!! But I enjoyed the alterative theories for Kayleigh's
delay on the Current/New "HECKEL" thread! Or perhaps some
Boneyarder has a "Play It
Again, Sam" idea. The story behind that theory was that the music
request was made by Kayleigh when she was seen/heard in Casablanca helping
the resistance movement (a secret mission!). I'm sure that she will be
in STORRS in time for the start of the June session (or perhaps: "OUT OF AFRICA", that, of course, is a different theory entirely!!). Then, again, maybe I just have too much time on my hands! GO HUSKIES! COME KAYLEIGH!

This is sad that College sports has come to this. "Is Heckel coming to Uconn"....

This is worse than MLB free agency. There is no innocence is College sports anymore.. It's all about the dollars. This is my opinion but at least I am honest about the situation....

Btw,

Many people (including myself) preferred College sports over Pros because of this "innocence" and because they were amateur and "student athletes"

But no more.. Especially since the NCAA has decided to get involved in the NIL money exchanges....

This is exactly why I won't watch the Mens College basketball games (where they are one and done) and especially football where anything goes financially....

College football used to be the best. But now you have guys making 6 million a year to play College football...

The women's game was the last great innocent sport...

Just my thoughts.

P.S.

I am as big of a Uconn fan as anyone on this board but I ask myself one question. Do I want to win this way?

I was disappointed to see that Shea was losing a good player but Iyana is a senior this year....transferring
to ND thru the portal for another season of hoops in college in 2025-2026. I wonder if she was even
eligible to play next year at Vandy?

Yes. Really sad, but it is how it works.

ND has brought in 4 transfers, all of whom are seniors or grad students. They now have 8 scholarship players on their roster. The Irish are “guard heavy” right now, and really in need a Big or two, and there are not any real talented Bigs floating around in the portal. ND will likely fill out their roster with walk-ons.

Whether Heckel decides to join ND’s guard heavy lineup remains to be seen. But one of the things we all considered to be an advantage for Heckel at ND over UConn was the better opportunity for PT at ND. That’s probably not the case anymore, at least not this coming season.

i just hope that she (Kayleigh Heckel) declares to which ever school already so we can all get to the important thing to discuss during the summer (who will start) :)
...and their true height in Hartley units!

Vince Lombardi: "Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit."
I'd gladly forfeit our 2 wins v. SC this season if only we could break the "habit" and return to simpler times. You?

I love Vince Lombardi. Greatest coach of all time in any sport.

I wish we can go back to simpler times too. I remember when the Big East ruled the sports world for mens basketball and players stayed all 4 years. (I was a kid)

But cheating and unfair practices like paying players has been going on for ages....

I remember watching the Great Bobby Knight on unfiltered with Joe Buck (you can see it on YouTube) talking about how much he detested John Wooden because he was a cheater that paid players to come to UCLA.

It is too bad this is happening in Women's basketball now. As a Yankee fan I never heard the end of it about how we bought 5 championships during the Jeter/Arod years...And it was true.

Now all you are going to see is the Big Dogs like Uconn, SC, USC, ND have players come because of the NIL money...

Of course she was eligible to play at Vandy. Why wouldn't she be?

So I guess this commitment was "telling" when it came to Heckel's decision....

Swish: I have no idea if Vandy permits a player to stay beyond their senior year.
For example the Ivy league does not.....that's a reason why we got Chen.

Oh "HECK" no!!!

Those two wins allowed the Huskies to make the UConn vs. USC matchup to be the greatest rivalry in WCBB, as USC beat UConn four times in a row, and 5 of 6. It could have been 5 in a row (and 6 of 7) if Dawn didn't let UConn off the hook in Spring of 2022 (under the guise of needing to play another SEC team to win the regular season conference Championship) when UConn was down to 6 scholarship players due to injuries and illness.

Maryland, LSU, uNd, and USCarolina have been the portal masters in the past 3 years. I am extremely happy Geno, CD & Company are the masters this year, particularly after winning NC #12 in Paige's last run, so Sarah, Azzi & company can go back-to-back.

I hope Q signs on somewhere in Division I, as her decision allowed K9 to "come home" to the Basketball Capitol of the Universe "Kennel."

Go Huskies!!!

Oh, the humanity! How well I recall the days when folks lamented that UConn got all the good players, and that's why they always won. Truth intervened; we've had to wait almost a decade to get another title. Geno has said many times that if titles were easy to come by, everyone would have one (or more). I faced the prospect of dying before #12 came our way. Now I can go with a smile (try on one, Dawn).
Now you threaten us with the prospect of only seeing the Huskies win into the future. Well, bring it on, Mr. Smarty-Pants. I, for one, will grin and bear it. I embrace it!
PS/Welcome, Kayleigh; you're positioned to be our next key piece--a true point guard.

Fine this time the portal will work in Uconns favor to which I am happy about too....

But it could easily work in the favor of LSU or S.C. as well. Especially with all the players they are buying. Oh excuse me, I meant letting NIL pay them to play. With the NCAA in charge of distributing the funds.

What ever happened to "student athletes" coming to a school for academics first and athletics second? What ever happened to staying at one school for 4 years?

If academics were the number 1 priority for these players then why would they transfer? Because it is about Athletics and money first and academics second.

I have seen some of these players change schools 3 times in 3 years Hailey Van Lith comes to mind (she turned 3 different teams into contenders too)...Just saying.

Btw

Just because I am correct and you disagree you have to resort to name calling? "Smartypants" lol.

Many of us go off to college not knowing exactly what our ultimate vocation will be. That's OK. If prospective athletes plan to use college as preparation for professional employment, how is that different from those with an academic bent? It's important to sort things out.
The transfer act often serves the same purpose: preparation. Some need more challenges, some more development, some more attention from prospective employers, some need to find out that it isn't for them. It's all legit.

This is just towards AVL. I feel like her sircumstances were different. She graduated from Louisville in 3 years and felt she needed to go in a different direction. LSU wasn't such a failure, she wouldn't have went to TCU.

The other sruff, times have changed, and us fans just have to deal with it.

Also, there was always a transfer portal. Yes, even in 2003. It just wasn't used the way it is now

And she graduated with 3 degrees in that same period. She definitely took advantage of the student part while in school.

I agree with this in theory, though I believe the 'purity' of college sports has always been a bit of a myth, just as the amateur Olympic athlete was. What I held onto was the 4 year nature of WCBB and that has truly gone out the window. I do think there will be fans who will become less fanatic when each year they are trying to learn a new roster as the the five starters are all new arrivals from somewhere else as is happening at a number of schools.

The big dogs have generally been able to feast on a few quality players from the portal to keep their momentum going, but teams losing 5 plus players to the portal and then refilling with 5+ new players is going to be an issue for their fans I would believe.

My comparison in real life is to the NBA - I grew up a die hard Celtic fanatic and I still look at scores from week to week, but I haven't watched a game in years. The turnover in rosters with unlimited free agency meant the players I had started to 'bond' with one year were playing for an opponent the next year and my loyalty waned.
