Sort of, but since this is NOT about finding the best college football team and is about getting the most eyeballs, and generating the most money, Norte Dame is doing what they were selected to do. But also one could certainly make the case that Clemson had no business there either. Game was over by halftime. Ohio State basically ran out the clock in the second half. Typically at least one of the semis is a blowout and this is certainly not the first time both have been.

It's not really true, it's only true to a point. The P5 is a monopoly that doesn't want to share it's pot of gold. Notre Dame was always in the club. All of them are breathing a sign of relief that Georgia snuck by Cinny. As long as they can keep ALL the playoff money in the P5, they will have a huge advantage over the rest of college football. They can pretend that no one outside of the P5 deserves a spot. But it's billsp$t and only works as long as they keep Cinderella from spoiling the ball.

Eyeballs are important. But protecting the castle is more important. It's about getting the most money.

Ohio State had 5 less games, 5 less games for injuries and wear on the athletes.

If Tulsa had beaten Cincy, it would've been Coastal Carolina. Dump on that idea if you want, it's quite similar to when UConn got the Fiesta Bowl spot.

UConn going to the Fiesta, in a way, may not have been that good of a thing.

It heightened expectations.

The collective fan memory is.."We went to the Fiesta Bowl"

And that rose colored memory still lingers.

UConn was a 8 win, three way tied Big East Co-Champion (with WVU and Pitt).....The Big East also had three
co-champions in 2012 and four co-champs in 2013. No clear dominant team in those years.

It definitely was not a good thing from a financial perspective as far as UCMB is concerned.

They all went (our daughter had a blast) at a cost of about $1 million. Up until that year, the band used to go to one away game every year. Except for, I think, the bowl game at Yankee Stadium, the band hasn't gone to any road games. Some of this may be geographical (travel to Syracuse may be about the same for Temple or Navy but everybody else in the AAC is further away), but a lot of it has to do with spending so much for the Fiesta Bowl and being hamstrung as a result.

The travel costs are expensive...some conferences give a travel allotment.

In the ACC...(This is 2018's info)

Each institution participating in a bowl game is provided an expense allotment, but all bowl revenue is divided evenly between conference members after subtracting expense allotments and ticket reimbursements. For this season, the Sun Bowl expense allotment is $1.326 million, the Pinstripe Bowl is $1.22 million and all other bowls are $1.167 million.

Yes all you say is true but your original comments were about Notre Dame. And among the P5 they alone get special treatment and got selected over several others including Cincinnati but also Texas A&M Oklahoma and Florida because they were Notre Dame and are deservedly or not the biggest draw.

Probably all of them would have scored 15 points against Alabama.
A few years back the NCAA opened the college hockey tournament to te Atlantic Hockey Assn. UConn was a member at the time. The fans of other leagues and even a few coaches complained mightily. For a couple of years, the AHA teams got beat. Sometimes close. Sometimes in blowouts. Then 16 seed ( the AHA team was ALWAYS the 16 seed) took on the odds on favorite Minnesota club and won. Not squeaks by on a lucky shot but played them head to head and just beat them. Holy Cross had zero scholarships. 2 years later AHA champ RIT went to the frozen four. Funny what can happen when you open the process. And nobody complains that Aha is undeserving of a bid anymore

They are the biggest frauds in football. How they are treated is an affront the rest of the college football world. There are eight teams that actually deserved the slot they were given.
I agree that ND in the CFP is obnoxious, but you say it yourself. This is not a unilateral arrangement. The rest of the P5 has agreed to the way they treat ND.

And there are millions like you. And that is what makes being a Notre Dame fan fun.
And what makes Norte Dame get picked over other better teams. Texas A&M will draw fans from Texas and maybe Arizona. Norte Dame will draw fans and casual fans and folks who hate them from around the country.

Notre Dame beat the #1 team in the country. A&M did not. That’s probably why Notre Dame got picked.

Then they got smoked by them and then got smoked again.

yes, but the question asked was how ND got into the playoff. The answer is pretty simple. They beat the #1 team in the country. No other team could make that claim. It’s easy to justify picking a team for the playoff when only one team in the country beat a team ranked #1.

Notre Dame barely beat the #1 team in the country that had it's backup QB in. Then got manhandled when Lawrence returned. A&M had a better resume.

Clemson and Notre Dame mowed through a pretty weak and over rated ACC. The same people put Notre Dame in the playoffs are the same people that say Clemson was the best team in the country. Notre Dame playing the number one team in the country brings a lot of eyes to TV sets?
