Monday also marked the end of second-round play in the WNIT. Some notable results so far:
  • Two out of the three AAC representatives—Temple and Tulane—are still in it. Tulane, the fifth-place team from the AAC, just posted a significant road win over Georgia Tech, which finished .500 in the ACC. Temple next hosts Ohio, while Tulane travels to Florida Gulf Coast. (Memphis, meanwhile, lost in the first round to UT-Martin.)

  • Both Pac-12 representatives—Oregon and Utah—are also still in, but they have to play each other next.

  • Out of 4 ACC teams, only one (Virginia) is still in. In addition to Georgia Tech's loss to Tulane, Virginia Tech lost to Ohio and Wake Forest got smoked by FGCU. Virginia, meanwhile, has scored impressive road wins over VCU and Rutgers, despite losing their leading scorer to transfer.

  • Out of 6 Big Ten teams, only Michigan survived the first two rounds. The other five Big Ten teams all lost at home (!), with four of them losing to teams from non-power 5 conferences (Minnesota to South Dakota, Iowa to Ball State, Nebraska to Northern Iowa, Northwestern to San Diego, and Rutgers to Virginia).

Update (3/23): Virginia bowed out yesterday to Hofstra, becoming that last of the ACC teams to exit. Michigan, the lone Big Ten team remaining, advances to the final 8 with a comfortable win over San Diego.

Thanks for the update. I saw that... "Sophomore guard Katelynn Flaherty scored a game-high 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting to go with three rebounds, four assists and three steals. Freshman center Hallie Thome turned in 16 points on 5-for-5 shooting with seven rebounds." Flaherty made the WBCA All-Region team, which is well-deserved. Michigan could be much improved next year -- most of it's key players come back....

Michigan has a very good coach and a strong appeal to recruits.

Tulane went down today to Florida Gulf Coast. Too bad for the Green Wave. FGCU was thumping them till Tulane came back a bit in the 4th quarter, but it wasn't nearly enough...

Update (3/25):
  • Temple won comfortably over Ohio, jumping out to a big lead in the first quarter and staying in front the rest of the way. Temple next faces a tough road game at Michigan.
  • South Dakota edged out Northern Iowa by a point, and will next host the winner of today's St. Louis-Western Kentucky matchup.
  • UTEP defeated TCU and will next host Oregon.

Thx for updates!

Is Mel Thomas still there, or did she move on?
