Norwalk Hour reporting that Chandler Whitmer headed to UConn

Norwalk Hour is reporting that former Illinois QB Chandler Whitmer verballed and will be coming to UConn.

Looks pretty good. Had good numbers last season for a strong JUCO program.

In 21 games, Whitmer was 180-for-316 for 3,022 yards (251.8 per game) and threw for 25 touchdowns. He had 14 interceptions.

Hopefully the four interceptions he threw in his last game were an anomaly. But it seems to be a significant upgrade. Would be nice to see a four-star live up to that billing at Rent.

Doing a little research, Whitmer was ranked by Rivals as the most accurate Passer in the Nation coming out of High School. After watching ZF and JM these last couple of years, I welcome the site of two (2) QBs coming into the program this year that have been touted for their accuracy.

Nice pick up. Like what the staff is TRYING to do. Upgrade the QB position in the future with Cochran, upgrade the QB position in the immediate term with Whitmer. JMac himself will be better simply because he will now know how to prepare to be a starter. I don't know if he can overcome some of his physical limitations like his slowness of foot, but he knows the speed of the game going into next year.

I hope this commitment is true.

Here's an idea... Why don't our coaches get in good with Robert Weiner, the guy that develops these young QBs into BCS level college football talent... That way we can avoid recruiting under the radar QBs we normally recruit...

He still has to learn the playbook, Johnny Mac has a leg up on him, if Mac can play like he did in the second half of the Cincy game, I won't have a problem with him starting, but all in all, very happy to have the young man on board.
