Norwalk’s Cam Edwards accepted the challenge and has become UConn’s workhorse in the backfield (Arruda)

-> Off the field, where most of the maturing occurred, Edwards has become a clear leader for a team that lost two great ones in offensive lineman Christian Haynes and linebacker Jackson Mitchell to expired eligibility and added over 50 new players.

Edwards doesn’t have to say much. But when he does, his words carry an inflection that teammates listen to. Mora characterized Haynes’ personality the same way, which helped him get drafted in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks.

“Cam’s personality is becoming a little Christian Haynes-like,” Mora said. “Christian was never a jerk, you just didn’t mess with him. Cam’s never a jerk, it’s just like, ‘Eh, I don’t know, I’m not sure I want to challenge that guy.'” <-

-> “We put a lot of pressure on him. He could’ve wilted, or he could’ve ran from it, but he embraced it. We were honest with him about where he needed to be and how far he had to go and he just embraced it,” Mora said. “There’s something inside of him that just accepted the challenge.” <-
