Funny you should bring up UVA. If Virginia was in the Big10, they might not be running on a deficit. In 2013, Virginia brought in $83.6 million while spending $87.4 million. They take much pride in their Olympic sports and are very successful in them. They spend a lot on them while not getting much back in the way of revenue. UVA had the second highest subsidies out of the P5 schools with $13.2 million. Who was first? Easy to figure out the ACC team that was bleeding money very publicly, Maryland. (Rutgers was much higher, but still part of of the AAC). You know who paid that $13 million? The students, and that still doesn't cover the $4 million deficit they ran.

Do I think the ACC is breaking up? Absolutely not. They are too tightly knit to break out. The UNC's, FSU's and the UVA's of the conference will always be fine. They have other ways of bringing in money. Who will really be hurting are the BC's, NCST's, VT's, Syracuse's and WF's of the conference. They will be the true casualties of Swofford's folly.
