This reflects the political nature of NY State, especially in the 50's when the SUNY system was centralized, with 5 major political divides (Long Island, NYC Metro, Capital Regional, Southern Tier, and Western). In retrospect, I bet that NY State wishes it did designate one campus (likely Albany or Binghamton due to location) as a true 'flagship' and funded it as such. Such a school would be a major academic power on the level of Cal, Michigan, Texas, UVA's of the world. [/QUOTE]
