I posted a thread on this a while back, it's no secret that the bball only schools are tired of following the football schools. It would not surprise me to see them break off, which IMO would be good for both. We need a balanced conference, this hybrid shiat aint working. Mike T was an idiot.

My guess is that this is just a couple of malcontents. Georgetown in particualr recognizes that without the football schools, that league maybe gets $1miilion/team...and that's a huge maybe. More likely something closer to the A-10 number which is substantially less. That's just the reality of the market. And there isn't all that much there once you get past Georgetown and to a lesser extent Marquette. Who is really going to pay big bucks to show PC-Seton Hall, and PC-St Johns? Maybe in 1965, but not today.

But now ESPN.com's Andy Katz is reporting that the Atlantic 10 is in fact open to welcoming the Big East's Catholic contingent. As such, this idea becomes a lot more real, with the possibility of a 21-team league once Temple and Charlotte leave the A-10

Oh my god, now the A-10 wants to raid us. Please someone shoot me.

Apparently this wasn't a secret meeting and they were just strategizing for a long term BB solution. Inevitably they will be left in the cold by all FBS teams trying to leave for greener pastures in CR. They can't do anything in the short term because they don't have conference exit fees readily available or a new conference ready to assist in that penalty payment to the BE. And there are other contracts that would hurt them in a move like the MSG contract for the BE BB tourney. Those BB schools have much smaller athletic departments and cannto absorb some of the fees/penalties the FBS schools can.

It makes sense for them to leave, why would you want to fly to Boise for a ball game when you can stay local and save money on travel expenses. The top bball teams have already left, now there's just Uconn and Cincy.

My guess is that this is a threat in order to pressure the rest of the BE football schools to invite Xavier and Butler into the NBE as full members. I am sure they were also planning on what to do if they were to split (if UConn and Cincy leave before July), but otherwise I think this was a pressure move to get more non-football schools.

I was thinking that this was more of a threat to restructure the payout percentages from the upcoming tv contract, if anything. They have already had their way with the additions of Temple, Memphis, and Tulane. Now, it seems likely that they are vying for a bigger slice of the tv pie. This whole time, I thought Aresco's biggest challenge would be dealing with the tv people, but in actuality, his biggest challenge is dealing with his members...

If this is the case call their bluff. I can't see how they can think that any conference they create would be better without UConn and Cincy. Call me a homer for thinking that but I can't see there being much monetary demand for the remaining BE non-fb schools. The only teams that carry and clout would be G-Town and maybe Villanova. Marqueete is nice and all but they aren't a team to build around.

OK the $350k per school A-10 is going after the $1-1.4m per school Catholic BE. How does that work>?
