I doubt we were ever out. You have to remember who is interviewing a recruit when they list their teams of interest. In fact, I think some are mistaking his list of schools he will officially visit as his final list of 5. He's likely going to save those 5 for the ones that will require significant travel, while he'll visit programs like UConn and PC unofficially. That's been my take all along.
With that said, if having his family and friends able to watch him play in-person is a big factor, we still have more than a puncher's chance. The 2013 NCAA ban at the moment and JC's health concerns are probably not helping us any.
If the above mentioned factor is not much of one, then I would think UK has the best shot at landing him. They present an excellent case for him. Not only are they poised for a deep run this March, but the Squid can point to Davis and say, he's NBA bound and I see you seamlessly slipping right in where he left off. I'd like to think that JC could pose the same argument with AD, but even though I still think AD is NBA bound (might not be NBA ready but that doesn't mean he won't be high lottery-pick ready) Davis' development compared to AD's as well as that of each team gives UK a decisive edge. I wish it wasn't so.
Let's hope staying close to home ends up being a strong consideration.
