It looks like the Lady Vols will not be using social media for the rest of the season. I highly APPLAUD this decision. I do not know whether it was a team decision or Holly's decision, but I love it.

What schools do this? Good or bad to you?

Holly has lost control of her team. She is grabbing at straws now, trying desperately to be the "tough guy". Too late, horses are already out of the barn.

As you probably know, that has been one of CD'S rules at UConn for a long time, probably since social media have existed. I don't know of any complaints about it, but then of course I wouldn't.

Dawn has had that rule for years; an expectation of sacrifice for the team. Our men's team doesn't have that rule, but everyone knows that Frank doesn't play.

i didn't know that actually. i knew some of the players didn't use it during the season but didn't know it was an actual rule. thanks.

The UConn ban is just Twitter. The players are on Instagram, Facebook, etc. I think it's just a way to keep them from saying something after practice/games that they might regret, or that the media might take out of context. There was a NYT article about it last year.

The Lady Vols thing is weird. Why are they starting that in the middle of the season? Did something happen on social media? Is this coming from the players or the coaches?

I think it is a great rule. A lot of people (adult) lived to regret what they inadvertently put on social media and scrambled to delete. Kids are busy enough with class work and practices and all the traveling.

Not sure who it is coming from will let you know if I hear anything. I just can't imagine being a division 1 athlete with social media these days. Too many stupid voices out there saying just about anything. To me, I think the only voices a player needs to hear during a season are the coaches, the teammates, real friends, and family members. Too much craziness online.

I think the ban applies to all social media at TN. Instagram, FB, Twitter, etc.

Well, you can certainly set your social media to see only posts from friends/family. You can make your Instagram/Twitter/Facebook completely private except to those you accept. I don't think it's a bad rule, I'm just curious as to the impetus. It seems like a kneejerk reaction to something, especially when it comes in December.

I think the UConn Twitter ban is part of the team (and especially CD's) philosophy on how to act in public/interviews, etc. I know they have rules about dress code, media appearances, using phones/headphones, etc. It's not just social media.

Stewie, Tuck, Moriah, KLS and Collier all have their FB page, but they are operated by fans not by them.

I think it's a good decision but the timing is unfortunate (unless it was the players' initiative).

A factor contributing to UConn's success on the court is the long list of established policies of Geno/CD. Among them:
- No names on uniforms (now a LadyVols rule too?);
- No t-shirts, knee socks, nail polish, or other personal fashion statements;
- No earphones in public;
- Restrictive social media (no Twitter for sure); and,
- No confrontations with refs (Geno's exclusive domain;)).
There are of course important others pertaining to academics, work ethic, behavior, etc., that are severely enforced.

There can be little doubt but that some recruits go elsewhere because of what they perceive as a draconian atmosphere in Storrs. After all "UConn is not for everyone."

But having rules in place helps weed out recruits who may not have NC-level discipline. The UConn record seems to justify the need for established (and enforced) rules. :)

yes i applaud this decision..... never have been a fan of athlete's potential to be distracted......

now dig in on the real problem.... fundamentals and x's and o's...... and CHW do not be too proud to seek assistance from other coaches , college and pro, who are doing it right..... would make a big difference....

i do see a lot of small changes happening with them. i think they really got hit hard with negative social media comments at first of season after those bad losses. they are getting healthy again and seem to really be playing better as a TEAM. i agree with bayarea though. HW needs to expand her ideas on offense and defense. that being said, the LVs look better on both ends lately. step by step as they say....

by the way, happy new year people!

Also, we shouldn't forget - no visible tats. That's probably a biggie for potential recruits.

I could be totally off base, but I'm just not seeing Diamond calling a players-only meeting and them deciding they gotta get off social media.. :rolleyes:

Im sure plenty have decided to go elsewhere because of CD's Laws

I truly appreciate Moriah Jefferson, KML and Gabby... Tiff etc for traveling across many states to give us 4 years of their time. Im so happy that they have won atleast ONE championship

I was thinking about opening up a mybook or facespace account but then I would have to learn how to twitter so I didn't. I heard something on the BY about a vooleoo something or other but I haven't had time to research that yet. I'll twit you when I know more.

funny -- I read that Diamond received a Mercedes as a Christmas present from her brother, and wondered the impact of THAT on team chemistry....

In the last game Diamond looked great. I am speaking of her looking healthy. She got more elevation when she jumped. She is getting close to being fully healthy. Nared said after the game that leaping ability is something I wasn't blessed with. Nared had a good game also. She is looking good.

Many tats can be accommodated - i.e. Williams' shoulder tape.

This should be something that is thought about and implemented at the beginning of the season. When it is done 10 games into the season it looks reactionary (bad) IMO.
