Just win baby!! Best home schedule in Rent history. Potential for a big year in men's basketball. Defending women's champs and could repeat. Realignment or not, UConn sports are going to be real fun next year!

Agree the negativity of some almost makes this board unreadable at times. Don't even get me going on the conference realignment board

Jello - you are right on the money. Unlike many poser "fans" I've seen post on this site, I don't really care if we play Houston or Michigan. I'm there to see UCONN. All the crybaby whining about being a mid-major is tiresome. Boise is a mid-major in FB and Gonzaga is one in basketball. They win games so it is not an issue. We need to win our games and everything will work out.

We do have a storied history, despite all the denial by some "fans". It's an incredible history. We've played around 70 games against Yale. Yale is the one of the most storied football programs in history. Yale has us beat more than 66%, if I am recalling correctly.

We also have very, very neat links to the first decade of the NFL. It is amazing to think we are being considered by the Big 10 now.

This is nice thought but it's pretty much BS. UConn and it's fans never had much of a problem with chesthumping. I can't help but wonder if it played some small part in out current predicament.

Looks like the true freshman on this board are ready to see the field. Keep it up guys.
Based on what I saw on Saturday, I would welcome that. Breath of fresh air...

Winning doesn't mean anything. We've won more than any other BigEast team ever and gotten jack for it. Winning will make us happier, I'll give you that.....if we go out and win the AAC in mulitple sports, we'll all be happier and maybe the board wont be as negative.....

but it wont help get us into a new conference

YESSSSSS!!!!!!!

We are indeed bad to the bone. If there are people in the nation who have yet to hear about it (they're probably living under a rock), then we are going to wake their a$$es up and let them know about it. Pride. Heart. UConn.

The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel, are the things that endure. _ Vince Lombardi

What it takes to be #1, has absolutely nothing to do with what athletic conference you are in. We are bleeding right now, from being cut out of the college football post season revenue sharing arrangement, but in pretty much every other way, our university hasn't lost much. THe men's basketball program, has arguably lost the most, and that isn't the rivalries, because you can always schedule opponents, what they lost was the tournement at MSG. That hurts.

But what it takes to be #1, isn't about what field you're playing on, or who you play against, or what court you are on, in what city. It's about looking up, when you're dong playing, exhausted, and victorious.

and with that...the words that stand over time....

Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

"There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that's first place. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay, and I don't ever want to finish second again. There is a second place bowl game, but it is a game for losers played by losers. It is and always has been an American zeal to be first in anything we do, and to win, and to win, and to win.

"Every time a football player goes to play his trade he's got to play from the ground up — from the soles of his feet right up to his head. Every inch of him has to play. Some guys play with their heads. That's O.K. You've got to be smart to be number one in any business. But more importantly, you've got to play with your heart, with every fiber of your body. If you're lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, he's never going to come off the field second.

"Running a football team is no different than running any other kind of organization — an army, a political party or a business. The principles are the same. The object is to win — to beat the other guy. Maybe that sounds hard or cruel. I don't think it is.

"It is a reality of life that men are competitive and the most competitive games draw the most competitive men. That's why they are there — to compete. To know the rules and objectives when they get in the game. The object is to win fairly, squarely, by the rules — but to win.

"And in truth, I've never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn't appreciate the grind, the discipline. There is something in good men that really yearns for discipline and the harsh reality of head to head combat.

"I don't say these things because I believe in the "brute" nature of man or that men must be brutalized to be combative. I believe in God, and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle — victorious."

Then you make the conference your in the best damn conference to be in. And you prod and coax and implore and nurture the other schools in this new league to do the same. You cheer when they win an out of conference game just like you cheer your own wins because every win helps every school. The stronger and more respected the conference is the better for each member. "All for one and one for all" should be the moto for this league. Hey, if the ACC doesn't want UConn then that's their loss not ours.

So is whining about our situation. Enough!
