No Blanca for Marquette

Getting scary?

OUT
#4 Blanca Quinonez
#23 Morgan Cheli
#25 Ice Brady
#33 Caroline Ducharme
It's such a shame that Morgan and Caroline are out. For them it's a tragedy, especially for one of my personal favorites Caroline in her final season, but it's basically irrelevant for #13. Thankfully, Morgan still has a lot of future ahead of her. Ice matters a bit more but with such a deep roster we still have about a 98% chance of #13 without her. It's just as tragic how injuries have hurt Ice's career as much as Caroline's, but it is what it is. A fully healthy Blanca does matter, but we're still all but certain to make the Final Four with or without her. By then, being without Blanca will matter. Here on 14Feb2026, the Final Four is still a month and a half away and that's a lot of healing time between now and then. If we're still wondering about Blanca's status a month from now, then it will be time for concern. Until then however, it's basically smooth sailing on a calm sea toward #13.

In Geno s last take on Blanca , he stated that MAYBE she would play Saturday. Somehow that morphed to likely to play.
I believe and understand that the public is not entitled to information on the health of any player, coach, assistant, etc but if information is given publicly, we are going to believe it.
I don't understand why a coach would say maybe will play or is day to day, the day before the game, unless the player is fully practicing with the team and is close to 100%. I guess she could have practiced yesterday but developed soreness before the shoot around this morning. I am guessing that the official Availability decisions are actually made well before they are posted on the BE site three hours before the game. Who knows????
Now, Caroline is an exception because she may have been practicing 100% with the team (not specifically citing yesterday) but develops migraine symptoms afterwards.

Today is 14February2026. But still a month and a half away from the Big Dance.

I was thinking the same thing. At this point why take the chance. She can use the BE tourny to get up to game speed and be ready for the big dance.
The issue isn’t playing time, it’s practice. If she’s not practicing then she’s not learning and improving, and in fact is probably regressing.

Ever since we were up by 12 against ND with 44 sec left when Paige blew her knee, Geno has been extremely conservative with injuries. But it sounds like it might be a problem the rest of the season. There comes a point where the player also has to either suck it up or be shut down. Hopefully it’s just Geno being cautious.
