He played at the end of the 3rd and in the 4th as a slot receiver. Caught two passes, one for a 1st down, and looked really good. Commentator Joe Theisman :)-( ) even said he'll be on some teams roster. Way to go Nicky Woo!

Remind me Thursday to talk about how to make the best use of this board. (The thread about UConn in NFL camps, last page is a good start...grin)

You know he will and Brady will make him a star. Hope the skins cut him. He has Brady target stamped on his chest.

How about a separate weekly uconn in the nfl thread? It will serve as a reminder to visitors, recruits and their families that we put players in the league.

Yes lets start a post every time somebody catches a pass in an exhibition game.

I know the skins like the kid they drafted who returns punts i think he was from TCU or something. I think he has to make it on specials. There was 1 other guy who was undrafted free agent who was in the same boat as Nick. I was down in DC and was talking up Williams to a redskin fan and low and behold Nick dropped the pass on cue(vs Titans). Oh yeah he did that sometimes in college. Hope he plays great in the last pre-season game and makes at least the practice squad.

The first cuts came down this morning and I thought that he'd be among them. I think the Redskins are looking to put Williams on the Practice squad. Chip Reeves and Donte' Stallworth were cut this morning. That means that Williams (At least one catch in each of the three preseason games) has to beat out fellow undrafted rookies Skye Dawson (has done nothing on offense) and Lance Lewis, and 2012 roster member Dezmon Briscoe. I think he only has to worry about Dawson, because the other 2 are more outside the numbers players. Williams is perfect for the slot and he can return. Dawson hasn't done much of anything this preseason.

If Skins cut him he'll end up on Pats.

Why? If you are going to compare him to Welker, remember that the Patriots already have 2 other Welker types in Amendola and Edelman (I.e versatile slot receiver, who can move around the field) and they love Dobson and Thomkins.

Nick surviving this far is huge for him. It should get him a good shot on the practice squad. Like some have said, his goal is to make it as a punt returner - but the Redskins also have a very old slot man (Santana) that needs replacing soon. Hopefully Nick's edge as a slot man helps him beat out Skye Dawson. Richard Crawford's injury was huge for both those guys.

Both will need to beat out, however, Chris Thompson for the job of punt returner. Thompson has been a bit of a fumbler, but does probably have more breakaway speed than Nick.

I don't think Nick ends up making it, but I do think that he ends up making the practice squad with a real chance at promotion if the returners falter at all.

Hopefully he has a huge game this week, yeah i saw that punt returner fumble a few times for them. I'm not sure if he's getting reps in practice though I don't know why he wouldn't.

Thats kind of where i was going. Thompkins has the"X" spot on lock. As cool as it would be to see Nick playing for the Pats, they wont put him ahead of a guy who has been with them (and excelled) through camp and the preseason games just because he's white and kind of reminds us of Welker.

Though I wasn't too impressed with him, Briscoe offers more on the outside for Washington, and Lewis has played well on special teams. I think Williams ends up on the practice squad with Skye Dawson, who has done nothing on offense this preseason. At least Williams has caught a handful of balls, so he is ahead of Dawson in my mind. Washington kept 6 receivers last year.

Moss is older, but he is reliable and he's not expected to burn down the field outside the numbers anymore. That is Aldrick Robinson's job. Moss is the perfect slot receiver.

I was trying to stay away from the race aspect, but that is the first thing that many people think of. It was the implication this spring when "Bill Belichick Watches Nick Williams Work At UConn Pro Day, " and I was on the Redskins board this morning, where even they were mentioning that Williams "is our Welker." There was an emoticon following the comment but the inference is clear...

ha - i think we all know that there is very little that is off limits on this board. i was obviously overstating the importance of the race aspect, however i was trying to hammer home the point that there is very little reason for NE to sign Nick W.

Wouldn't it be something if two players from the "untalented" offense that "doesn't have the talent to compete with Rutgers and Syracuse" made the NFL this year? Be fun to rev up the old "how did this team only win five games" conversation after the combine.

That particular song has been running on an infinite loop since sometime during the Western Michigan game.

Wow a two page thread because a guy caught two passes in an exhibition game.

Do you have something against Williams or Redskins? Williams is an undrafted rookie free agent who may catch on with an NFL team despite his physical attributes. I was on record as saying he would probably be better suited for Canada, but he got through the 'Skin's first cuts ahead of tomorrow's deadline, and that has given me some pause in his case. I still don't think he is making the final 53, but it is still a testament to UConn's program that even if a player is not drafted, they can catch on and succeed. It needs to be noted by recruits and the schools in the "Power 5" Conference, that they don't have to play in the SEC, Big 12, or the PAC in order to succeed in the NFL.

Where did the best offensive player in the history of the NFL go to school?

A guy? That's not just any guy. It's Nicky-Will. One of our storied Husky players. He deserves all the accolades as do all our other alumni trying to play their way onto a roster. We should all be pulling hard for him to make the Redskins.
