Despite not recording a receiving touchdown during his final season at the University of Connecticut, undrafted free agent Nick Williams made the best grab of the day during one-on-one drills.

It's a shame Nick never redshirted, my gut tells me TJ would have figured out a way to get him the ball, then again if he plays for pay this year he will be better off.

Nick will be starting the second half of the Redskins first pre-season game Thursday night against Blidi and the Titans. Looks like it will be on NFL network in a back and forth style between several games.

Nick Williams is last on the depth chart for Thursday's game. On the other hand, starters historically play 2-3 series. It will be interesting to see if they play more this year as this is season #1 under the new collective bargaining agreement. It will be the first opportunity for significant hits for many of these players (Remember, fewer two -a-days and not significant contact in practice. I expect Williams to get a shot at returning kicks at some point, but I don't know if he will get much run at WR unless it is with Pat White vs. the Titans' scrubs...BUT...that is how jobs are won.

Interesting note...The Redskins play their first preseason game exactly 52 weeks to the day after they played last years' 1st preseason game. I know this without looking it up because I was holding my 1-day-old son, with the Redskins game playing on my computer, the Patriots playing on the hospital TV, and my wife sleeping in the bed beside me. It was exactly like that State-Farm commercial...This year, the 'Skins play on his 1st birthday...

Per Zac Boyer (former UConn journalist, now following the 'Skins), Nick Williams will play offense and potentially return kicks, but not until at least the third quarter. He gave no indication about starting the 2nd half.

My son will be in bed by kickoff. The only question is can Dad stay up long enough. Its been tougher over the last 363 days than it was previously. The spirit is always willing, but the flesh falls off a cliff around 9:45.
