It sounds to me like Mir made the right call here. She would not be starting, and she would not be getting the minutes she is now had she stayed. UConn was just not a good fit for her. Glad things are working out for her. I always liked Mir.

You are a FAN! Under the current situation Uconn find's itself in, it is probable and possible, Mir would be getting minute.
Watching her at Virginia, recently, I would think if she played with hustle and skill, especially rebounding against taller opponents, Geno would have found a way for her to get into at least the last 3 game.
Would she have gained the "in game" experiences she had had, who knows?
But more than certainly, for Mir, she made the right choice/decision.
We should understand when a Parent speaks about her child being used or abused, it isn't the former Player speaking. Saylor, has always had my hopes for her career to expand and be all she can be.

Mir might be among the best players that got away, but the handwriting was on the wall. In essence she was the third string PF behind Aaliyah and a bigger and pretty similar player in Aubrey. I suspect when she was recruited Geno may have hoped that her perimeter skills would advance, and she could be more of a wing, but that didn't happen.

She is what she is, an amazing rebounder for her size and a true 5-11 PF. She is best around the basket despite her size, but that meant she was behind two exceptional players. She was way too talented to be third string for anybody. Players at her level might accept a bench role on a great team, but mop up minutes was not realistic, so I think her departure was easy to comprehend.

Agreed. She would be getting minutes now. Any healthy body on the team is getting minutes. When she decided to leave this time last year, no one foresaw the dilemma they are in now. She was looking at her (then) present situation and the near futher.

This is the part that caught my eye: “Coach Auriemma is very respected,” McLean said, “and we had a good relationship to where I felt comfortable going to talk to him and I didn’t get into, ‘Oh, I’m transferring.’ It was a conversation about what I could do to improve and how I could be better in the future, and it led down that road to where I was I thinking, ‘It’d probably be better off that I leave and go do something else.’ (she saw the writing on the wall) I’m really blessed that he was very supportive and the whole staff there signed my waiver off and helped that process.”

She's starting now, and she's putting up impressive stats. Her 13 points and 10.2 rebounds per game pace the Cavaliers, who are 11-0.
She likes her team and her school. Sounds like a win-win to me. She said she learned things at UConn that are serving her well now. Players want to play. She was not happy sitting at the end of the bench. With players coming in "on top" of her, there's no gurantee she would have moved up on the depth chart. She did the right thing!!

Let's also mention her wise decision to transfer to a school with a terrific national academic repution. UVA is ranked #25 among national universities by U.S. News. (UCONN is ranked #67.)

The only other player I can think of is the one who went to Mississippi State (name escapes me). But after a year of very good basketball, or at least good 3-point shooting, she petered out, and transferred again. She didn't play in one game against UConn because she was being punished for violating team rules.

No one saw this coming. Mir left this time last year. She could not see or foretell "the current situation" back then. She made a dicision on her situation at THAT time. Yes, I agree, she would get more playing time if she were still here. Can YOU tell us right now what the state of the team will be this time next year? Who will be injured, who won't be here...etc. Neither can anyone else.
