>> ... he is now the sixth player in program history with 3,000 yards from scrimmage (combined rushing and receiving yards)

Donald Brown (2006-08) 3800-276=4076

ARKEEL NEWSOME 1848-1253=3101<<

Time to gripe about the Red Pants guy for a minute. Looking at Arkeel when he got here it seemed (a) he had good straight line speed (b) he was very shifty in the open field and made people miss (c) he had good hands, (d) he lacked size and (e) he didn't have a knack for seeing and hitting holes between the tackles, which were admittedly scarce.

So what does Bob do? Run him up the middle, over and over. Usually on first down. The bigger Ron Johnson, oh lets run him outside, where he lacks the quickness to get the edge. I mean, this was obvious to all of us. Lashless and RE come in and find out the above info, and now Newsome is the second coming of Kevin Faulk.

Shirreffs and Newsome will end their careers all over the record books and have a team record of like 10-40.
Shirreffs is a nice kid, but I think you could add Newsome to any top team, and a good coaching staff will find a way for this kid to be a contributor. Get him the ball in space and good things will happen.

Some people are born to be musicians, some prize fighters are born to kick ass, Arkeel Newsome was born to play football. Under appreciated cause we've been so bad.

This kid would have been something in Edsall's 1st go round. Sometimes a great player has the misfortune on being on really bad teams. Misused for almost his entire tenure and still put up great numbers in college.
Fortunately the NFL doesn't care much for college W/L especially in any non-QB position

Could be dangerous in the flat and slot

Could be very effective in a Darren Sproles, Danny Woodhead, Kevin Faulk role.

That's what happens when you let your friend who has never run an offense call the shots (Verducci). That's what happens when you let someone coach OLine that doesn't believe in stretching or sleds (Cummings... true story).

The dude never had a chance...

IIRC, didn't Diaco have a very subdued reaction when asked how he felt about already having Newsome committed to the team when he became HC? Was it more that he just didn't think AN was all that great or more that he didn't like the idea that he, Diaco, had nothing to do with Arkeel selecting UConn? Maybe it was a little of both...haha. Either way, it later became obvious that he had no idea how to get the most out of Newsome.
