New strength coach Matt King brings energy — lots and lots of energy — to UConn football
>>The secret, the strength coach says, is to bring “authentic energy every day" so that players can look forward to workouts instead of dreading them.
What does that energy look like? It looks like bouncing between weight racks hyping up players. Trash-talking them at practice through a megaphone. Dancing next to them, to the music they like. Cracking jokes as though he’s one of their peers.
“Our staff is the thermostat; the kids are the thermometer,” King said on the eve of UConn training camp. “At the end of the day, if that thermostat is running hot, then the thermometer is going to run hot. So we’ve got to run hot, and if we bring energy every day, they’re going to feed off our energy.”<<
