I was sitting here thinking.... in the past 7 or so years as good as ND has been and as hard as they have played and with all of the FF they have been to in a row... I don't recall them ever being ranked #1. I know that rankings for most elite coaches don't much matter but wouldn't you think last year when UConn lost to Stanford and SCar got the #1 ranking by default that Muffet had to be just a little bit pissed? I mean could you imagine? You go 2008-2010 losing over and over to Connecticut. Then 2010-2011 you get a FF win over them and into your second ever title game and lose to who? Texas A&M? Then 2011-2012 you beat UConn not once but 3 times... you gotta win the NC right? Nope. Lost to Baylor. So you are feeling good. The tide is turning. 2012-2013 you are cruising you beat them 3 times... again! This is monumental. All games were played at a high level, recruits are taking notice... you get destroyed by them in the FF. Something has to give right? You mosey on over to the ACC for the 2013-2014 season and run the table... You are primed for the battle of the century. You lose Achonwa and you lose another title game. You take some deap breaths and get back to work. You are minding your own business the 2014-2015 season has just begun and you find out Uconn is 1-1.... How do you not go completely postal when the next week SCar is #1? I would have lost my mind. Instead, she coaches her way right back to another FF. ESPNW gives ND only a 40% chance of beating SCar...(Personally, I was like... No) anyway... We all saw they game they win it. In the 2015 title game they pretty much gave up with 5 minutes left. She had to be thinking... I have about as many title game losses as Pat Summit minus the glory of at least as many title wins.

In conclusion.... SCar vs ND should be the newest rivalry in WCBB.

P.S. I probably could have said that in less words but it all truly is mind boggling.

It has happened to other coaches as well - LSU and Stanford have both had runs of 5 final fours - so Muffet can get together with Pokey and Tara and have a few too many at the local watering hole.
For ND, they had their best chance that first year against A&M, but ND had just played their NC game against Uconn two days earlier and just didn't bring it against TAMU.

It is just unreal how intertwined their fates have been. I just could not imagine being in her position last year when that poll came out. I probably would have needed to be committed for a short term hospital stay for psychological evaluations... All my marbles would have been lost.

Suppose we were in the same conference the past 3 years. We've lost a grand total of one game in these 3. Think of how scared some are here on just the thought of having to play USF 4 times in a year. We probably would have had to play ND 4 times and 12 times over the past 3. Even the NBA super teams don' easily sweep their tougher playoff opponents. Conceivably if we were in the ACC and the circumstances for ND would have changed that maybe their center wouldn't have gotten hurt so they'd have 3 terrific teams to compete. Thus over the past 3 years we could have beaten them 3 out of 4 only to lose in the title game. Would that be a rivalry? Sure. Odd to think that they might have won 1 or 2 or 3 championships even though we could have beaten them 3 out of 4.

USF is a good team, and Jose is an excellent coach, but "scared"? Uh...nope. 20-25 point average win margin.
