As a Husky, Stokes saw her game blossom, but not without a few bumps along the way. “[Head coach Geno Auriemma and I] butted heads a lot. It was just one of those things, but he’s done a lot for me. I can call him now and ask him anything,” Stokes said. “When you’re playing it’s tough, he wants it done his way all the time. And I was definitely stubborn, so we did butt heads a bit. He expected more from me offensively and I didn’t really give that to him, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.”

UConn’s Associate Head Coach Chris Dailey saw the pair’s relationship as less confrontational than some would suggest. “I think if you asked coach Auriemma, [Kiah would] be the kind of person you want your son to marry,” Dailey told me in a phone interview. “The only time there’s butting heads is when the effort level is not where it needs to be, and I think that is really the only time where coach has a real issue with anybody.”

Many posters have commented about Kiah's offense and placed blame all over the place--even on Geno. Does Kiah's quote clarify who did what? Did Geno butt heads and expect offensive output from Kiah? Did Kiah resist? Hey posters, does this info from the horses mouth change your opinion or solidify it?

Kiah will forever remain one of our Husky enigmas - loved, respected, enigma. To suggest otherwise is to speculate, and some of us know there terrible consequences of speculation here on the Boneyard.

For a while, there was speculation that Bad Boy Bill was going to turn Kiah into an
offensive juggernaut - something Geno was unable to do.

Looking over her season stats thus far, it looks like she's giving the Liberty about
what she was giving UConn - mainly rebounding and blocked shots.

I liken Kiah's current situation to turning on an oven. You know the pilot light is on. You turn the knob, and wait for the flame to come on. She's going to have a breakout game at some point during this season. After that (confidence booster), the points should come more frequently. It will probably come towards the end of the season.
At this point, the game has not slowed down for her, but she is beginning to feel more comfortable, and she's beginning to feel like she can play at this level. The flame will come on.

Geno and CD clearly said that Kiah was one of the nicest kids they had ever coached.

Kiah reminds me of a Laimbeer teammate who played great defense and an incredible rebounder. When he scored it was an extra luxury for the Pistons.Thats the only things they have in common because she is an incredible young women! His name is Dennis Rodman.

I personally don't think Kiah deserves to bear the burden of some BYers frustrations targeting unfulfilled expectations. She is a wonderful young women and I personally had the pleasure to talk with her - impressive. Her basketball accomplishments are significant unless tainted by the expectations of others. She gave us what she did and she turned many games around. I saw her efforts from close up many times, and they were intense. I'd like to see what those folks that are frustrated with her can put up as their personal accomplishments against what Kiah has already achieved, or against what others may decide they should have accomplished. My recommendation is to lighten up and enjoy her successes - this is a 22 year old who will continue to grow in many ways. Enjoy her career and magnificent swats without overanalyzing.
