Coming from the east on 95, if I get off at 27A onto Lafayette St can I park in the huge parking lot on the left that seems to belong to a strip mall or something? A lot of people were doing it on Sat and then walking to the arena. Did they end up getting towed or anything or is it a legit alternative? I'd love to save the $20 and 45 min slog to get into the parking garage. If I park in the aforementioned lot can I turn right exiting it, drive under the highway and just get back onto 95 right there?

If you are talking about the strip mall that has a Dunkin' Donuts at one end and a Bob's Store at the other, we parked there and paid $8.00 for the privilege -- they even gave us a receipt! The only thing they asked was that we not obstruct parking in front of Bob's. After the game, we also were able to go right out the parking lot, and then right as if you were going back to the Arena, taking the loop around, and got right on the highway entrance northbound before you get to the Arena.
It was an easy walk and a lot less painful than paying $20.
