The PAC 2 would be the best programs in a G5 conference and based on the quote, they weren't getting any other offers.  So perhaps rather than just merging with the MWC, the next best option would be to take 4 of the best programs from the MWC.  Then maybe go after the best of the rest of the G5 to make the strongest G5 possible.  Still a step down for the PAC 2.

Maybe the PAC is setting itself up to be the best remaining option for some programs if and when the ACC splinters.  Wait as long as possible for the ACC or go grab a few AAC or other G5 programs.  Grabbing SDSU and Boise St is a pretty good start.
