It looks like this happened because negotiations broke down between the MWC and Pac 2.  It is in everyone's interest to return to the table and hash this out.  The MWC has the right to $100+ million of exit fees, but it will be in trouble without some of its higher profile programs, and it is a certainty that other top programs like UNLV are trying to get into the Pac 2.  The Pac 2+4 would rather not spend $100+ million to clean up a bad deal it signed with the MWC 9 months ago.  Even if the Pac 2 gets $10MM a year in a new TV deal, it is not enough to justify the cost of the move, and it will not have nearly the hoops revenue and NCAA Tournament that it would with New Mexico and Utah State.  
  
There should be a merger or affiliation arrangement that is a better outcome for everyone than where they are likely to end up.
