Here’s mine:

1. Must be a head coach or was one at a high level.

2. Will bring coaches and talent with him. The great ones always do.

3. Must be able to thrive and win in the NIL/Rev Share environment and not cry about its complexity and ambiguity.

Straightforward enough?

We should be looking to NDSU, Montana, Montana St and other Missouri Valley coaches. All completely dominate the FCS with little to no NIL money and smaller athletic budgets than UConn.
At the moment the last thing I want is a head coach who would move two thousand miles away to a G level school at the drop of a hat because it feels more like home.

Agreed but would also add no Joe Moorhead or Gordon Sammis as those seem to be the 2 trendy names the usuals are throwing out.

Tim Polasek is a winner and and OC by trade and is making less than 400k per year. The offense under him at NDSU has been practically unstoppable and a huge reason they won like like all but 2 national titles in the last decade (he was OC there for a while too).

Tony Reno is at the top of my list. Bob Chesney was mentioned as a candidate the last coaching search and look at the success he's having. I'd rather hire an FCS coach than a first time coach. Someone who knows how to build a program. I'd look at Tony Reno, Pete Rossomando (Lamar HC, former CCSU HC), Harvard HC Andrew Aurich & UNH HC Ricky Santos. Wildcard options (no pun intended) are Navy OC Drew Cronic (but not bringing the triple option) and Dave Clawson.

Why not Sammis? He knows the situation here, has a good offensive sceme. Could probably hold onto a good amount of players here and ones committed. A familiar face might keep the imminent chaos to a minimum. If he(or Benedict waving the right amount of cash) could persuade the defensive coordinator to stay this might not turn into the God awful mess everyone rightfully anticipates. I'm still holding out for our current coach to let everyone know this is a load of BS and he's not going anywhere.

Bill O Brien

dark horse- sure he's in a p4 but how great is his situation, really.
i think he'd do wonderful with the right support. He may be more vulnerable (open to talk) than we realize, and his name is one i haven't seen mentioned anywhere.

Were the timing right, Bob Chesney would be a target but he's on another tier of searches right now.

Would Benedict take a swing at a former SEC coach working down his buyout?

Better hurry😉

Agree on the criteria. Knowing the landscape is important so being a Northeast guy is a plus.

Reno and Cahill should be contacted. If Chesney doesn’t see a P4 opening he likes he may hear us out, but would be a tough sell getting him to leave James Madison. They’re closer to the CFP than we are currently.

Folks who recommend candidates like the Kelly’s, Orlovsky, Pentrino, or Belichik should seek a lobotomy.

To me, the rules have changed so completely that having won in college in the past is less important. Coordinators and assistants will coach. You need someone who can figure out how to allocate the salary pool among potential recruits, potential transfers and returning players. That's job #1, and I'm not even sure how you evaluate that other than from interviews as the rules are changing so materially so consistently.

I'd say this about comparing Kelly and Petrino to Belichick. It's one thing to hire a jerk. It's another to hire a jerk whose personal problems are interfering with being a coach day to day. That puts Belichick way behind a Kelly or a Petrino. Not that we're getting any of them.
