Dishin & Swishin 2/25/16 Podcast: Moriah Jefferson ready to join the Huskies of Honor, but what comes next?

It is a pleasure to welcome Moriah Jefferson to this week’s Dishin & Swishin podcast, to discuss the season, her career, taking a “back seat” to Stewart in her personal stats and recognition, senior day and her future.

What about that future? She is a virtual lock to be a top draft pick in the WNBA draft. As good as Jefferson is, unlike teammate Stewart who is considered to be a future superstar, there are questions being asked about Jefferson, mostly based on her size. Generously listed at 5-7, she slight of build. Can she withstand the pounding of larger professional players? She has extremely rare combinations of speed and quickness, but can she defend strong guards like Taurasi or Lindsay Whalen?

It is a pleasure to welcome back to Dishin & Swishin one of the most experienced and best talent evaluators out there, former coach Lin Dunn.

Coach Dunn graciously agreed to come on and discuss Jefferson’s WNBA potential, the pros and cons, and also discussed the “other” guard gaining much attention as draft time nears, Minnesota’s Rachel Banham.

You sure know how to get our interest stoked! Really fun podcast enjoyed both segments, and was pleasantly surprised by how high on Jefferson Lin Dunn is - we at Uconn know how special she is, but I wasn't sure how an outside would read her potential as a pro.
And fun to see Moriah as a freshman in that clip - it is surprising how little she has changed outwardly. She was a very confident and composed incoming freshman.

Thank you for listening! With all the coverage the local media gives UConn, it's difficult to get access for a podcast with the Huskies.

I am very appreciative of them making Moriah available to me on a phone call, since everyone else always is there looking for stories at the in person media time.

She is my wife's favorite player, and a joy to talk to. I saw her at USA practice and asked her what she noticed; I was fascinated her answer was pace, that they never rushed, they never went too slow. It was always just right.

Coach Dunn is one of my favorite people in women's basketball, and knows so much. As she said, retirement lets her watch a lot of games! She told me she even watches the Pac 12 games on the ipad at night! :)

So glad she was given a WBCA ifetime achievement award today.

I hope everyone gives it a listen; it would be nice for the podcast to get a lot of hits from here. Remember, we're on itunes too! :)
