New B/R mock draft - Braylon at #8, AK at #29

I'm from Indiana and the basketball is different out here. I know everyone thinks "Prep" is the way smh.

I watched this kid get Box and 1 every game and Tri Angle and 2, with both defenders on him. Still Avg 33ppg.

So yes I'm taking Indiana "PUBLIC" school over the whole prep thing.

Prep is glorified ALL STAR BBALL

Prep basketball is absolutely not glorified all-star basketball. Please take an opportunity to watch the EYBL scholastic league.

The reason why teams could face-guard Mullins all game in Indiana is because the competition sucked. His team without him is the level of a decent CIAC team.

Between Mullins and DC, I think we've learned that a kid in a public league can make the transition to high-major if they're putting up huge #s and getting a ton of reps. I've got no problem recruiting public schools boys, but let's not pretend like it's somehow equivalent to prep basketball just because basketball is popular in Indiana.

Just revisiting this for fun. Karaban has shot 641 threes in his UConn career to date, hitting 243 of them for 37.9 percent.

His year by year percentages are 40.2, 37.9, 34.7, and 41.8. Pretty narrow range.

He did go through a slump last year, no doubt. There are certainly better shooters around the country.

But I'm curious what people think a consistent three-point shooter looks like. How is it not Alex Karaban?

He also had a concussion last year.

I agree that there are plenty of cases where playing public high school ball is better...it is usually a much better game atmosphere where the fans/students/families actually care which leads to more pressure situations and games that actually matter. If the kid is playing against good competition in the spring and summer, even better.

However, every year the talent pool gets a little more diluted in the public school leagues.

He's not consistent. Most of these mock sites have no idea what they're talking about.

Id be very surprised if AK sticks in the NBA because he struggles badly against athleticism. I think he shoots well enough to play in any league but i just dont think he can keep up at his position athletically.

I don’t see Karaban being a 1st rd pick .. he definitely has a pro mindset wise
but he not a PF, nor is he a SF unfortunately
If he was a legit 6’9, had more athleticism or could create his own shots he’d would be for sure
But he will be drafted no doubt

He was perfect for College basketball tho & im grateful to have had the opportunity to appreciate his play at UConn he’s gonna be in the rafters for sure #Legend

Yeah maybe. But you could have said the exact same thing about Cam before he got to the league. I could see Karaban sticking because a lot of what he is good/great at is wasted In college basketball because most college players are not good enough mentally at basketball to be on the same page as he is.

AK is no Cam offensively. Dont get me wrong i didnt think Cam would have the success hes had (nobody did) but with his skill set, shot and tenacity it was pretty safe to say he would stick. Maybe im wrong about AK but i just dont think hes skilled enough to make up for the athleticism deficit.
