New Athletic Complex Moving Forward

Is 1000 seats too small for baseball? We did twice that in Hartford.
 
I saw the notation in the document. The initial plans were/are for 1,500 and they have the plans for expansion when needed (see below from old thread). Games I've been to in Storrs have been "family and friends" crowds.

Heck - if we average 1500 in attendance per game it would be top 40 in the country (all conferences).

Thursday night, great weather, brand new stadium in downtown Hartford which is convenient to get in/out of, with lots of food/beer options.

I don't think it's in any way applicable to what we'd need on campus. I think 1000-1500 is perfect, and they should continue to periodically play in Hartford to help drive up interest.

Why only a 4,000 seat soccer stadium???
Morrone is 4,500 seats with SR behind nets to make ~5,100ish, correct?

If you're gonna go brand new, don't you think you should make it 5,000 real bench seats and 6,000+ capacity for seats and SR behind goal nets?

Is it a room / amount of area restriction? Worried about not selling it out all the time?

Just seems short sighted to only have 4,000 seats.

They need to reconcile the original plans w/ the released Construction Mgr RFP.

Original soccer was higher @ 5,500.

Well, I hope the people quoting this RFP know that.

That 5,500 #... is that people just in all 4 sides bench seats? Not including goal patrol sneaking in front of bench seats in front of goals?

So maybe this new one will be 6,500+ capacity? It will help with trying to increase our chances of getting #1 in soccer attendance.

UCSB: 17,000
CAL Poly: 11,075
Maryland: 7,000
Creighton: 6,000
Akron: 5,800

Private donations/fundraising by UConn Foundation. Nothing from State.
 
According to this story, soccer matches would stay on campus during the whole construction cycle, which would conclude in the summer of 2019. Soccer would be played at the old Morrone through the 2018 season, and be at the new facility in the fall of 2019. Baseball and softball will play the 2018 season on campus, those two sports would be played off campus in the 2019 season, and would would return to campus for the 2020 season.
