New #1? | The Boneyard

New #1?

With Texas beating #2 and #3 on a neutral court, hard to not vote them #1.

I’d probably have
  1. Texas
  2. UConn
  3. So Carolina
  4. Michigan
  5. UCLA
  6. Maryland
  7. LSU
  8. TCU
Can't argue with you. They won the votes on the court beating those teams on successive days. Those wins are a tiny bit more impressive than our wins.

Massey has it right this Morning with;
1vUConn
2 Texas
3 Scar
4. UCLA

Numbers 5-10 are the interesting slots. I have these 4 in some order for now:
LSU
Michigan
TCU
Then another P/5 challenger like Maryland. I don’t see a top 8 ACC team at this time but the ultimate champ will have a shot

1. UConn
2. Texas
3. SC
4. Michigan
5. LSU
6. UCLA
7. Maryland
8. TCU
9. Oklahoma
10. kentucky
11. UNC (much to @triaddukefan chagrin, sorry 😞

That’s my assessment. And yes I added an 11th team for our favorite BY humorist to add to his woes….

Also, I am currently withholding my motion to revoke @Vowelguy membership on the forum due to his traitor ish behavior…..🤓

I could see maybe making a case for this argument if Texas had blown South Carolina out of the water. However, it was a two point win and South Carolina mostly shot themselves in the foot at the end. If they had made their free throws, we would be having an entirely different conversation. I’d expect that these two teams would play each other closely, but that doesn’t say anything about how good they are in relationship to Connecticut. I don’t think that there’s anything in this game invalidates the case for UConn being number one.

If anything, I think it goes to show how much South Carolina is struggling without Chloe Kitts, and that they have to integrate their new pieces.

This sounds right to me. Those two wins should count for something. But the reality is often that a #1 isn’t dethroned without suffering a loss. And SOS doesn’t seem to factor in as much as I tend to think it should.

Ok, so here's my logic. UConn has had 27, 30, 28, and 32 1st place votes. Yes, Texas beat both UCLA and SC, although I'd give them more props for the latter than the former, as in the first game, they didn't keep foot on the gas. I get that it's an "out of sight out of mind thing" with our schedule, however are that many voters gonna say, oh, even though UConn is still undefeated, we're gonna give the vote to the most recent shiny object? UConn hasn't done anything to not warrant staying in 1st place.

That being said, it doesn't really matter, and all that does is what happens in April. 😁

UConn hasn't done anything to not warrant staying in 1st
But that’s only half the equation?
Maybe another team has done more, which warrants them moving up?

In any event , the ranking last week should be irrelevant; voters should be ranking based on “who do you think is the best? 2nd best? Etc.”. Whether it be UConn, Texas, Maryland, ….

A champ is No. 1 till they lose. It

Sorry but this is an awful take. It comes from boxing and holding a title belt. But there is no title belt to surrender. Last year is done.

#1 is whoever you think is the best team. If you think it’s last years champ, fine. But if they lost all their players and you’re voting for them “just because” of what they did last year, then I think you’re a bad voter. But hey everyone gets to vote however they want.

Consider this: had ND won the title last year — which they had the talent to — would you really have voted ND#1 this year, even though they lost everyone except HH? Whats the point of having a poll if it doesn’t resemble reality (ie, highlighting the best teams) and informing viewers?

Agreed. It's almost like some didn't watch the games.
