Does anyone have Nest thermostats installed?

And if so, have they been flaky over the past week?

I’ve had one for for a little over 3 years and I’ve never encountered any problems.

Ooh timely topic. Was thinking of getting one as my main floor thermostat has been flaky. Four zones though, not sure Nest learning makes sense.

Have three in the house and woke up to them all off line today( all Nest cams were fine). Reset modem and seemed to do trick, but had an issue logging into Nest app. All has been fine rest of the day.

3 installed. No problems.

If you have been having issues, it might be because Google is migrating nest accounts and merging data with Google accounts. I had no issues but could be causing some provisioning and logging issues in theory

I’ve had Nest cam issues this week. Issues logging in, the app telling me it is having difficulties and telling me the camera isn’t online then one second later it is. Just seems like something wrong on their end.

They’ve apparently been having issues since yesterday.

Software updates are generally a disaster for Nest, but it’s getting worse; the update/battery issue happens too often.

Google is just really bad at this stuff.

I had to get rid of mine earlier this month. In July we had a battery issue so we called a “nest specialist” who told us our wiring was off...The specialist adjusted the wires and when it came time to turn on heat it wasn’t working. Called the nest specialist again and this time it was the base that was the issue. They had to order a new one and install. Heat still wasn’t working, all we had was non stop clicking from our boiler room. We ended up calling a non nest specialist and installed a simple thermostat.

I also heard these Nest thermostats can get hacked into ? Has anyway experienced that? Just bought a house and was considering buying them.

I have a dual zone and two nests and haven't noticed anything weird. I did just manually migrate my account which for a brief moment broke my automation with Alexa but easy enough to fix.

It’s probably because in addition to controlling the temperature of your house it is recording everything you say, taking naked pictures of your wife and plotting your complete financial ruin on a day of Google’s choosing. Complex machine.

Everything is hackable. Especially the IOT stuff. What’s worse ( and I can only Speak generically overall, rather than specifically to NEST which I joked about earlier in thread). The Chinese are making all these devices, there are many of them they are hiding/embedding command and control chips and/or firmware in them. Your cheap home security cams, your smart TV’s, your refrigerators, your thermostats.

Most of you will think I’m wearing the tin foil hat, and snicker at crazy ADub. Or think I’m trolling. Which is a fair assumption I guess. All of you with smart home devices are upper middle class and above , you know better and love the convenience. I get it. It’s the hubris of the privileged. But in 5 years when you see the Fallout ramifications and news exposes on this stuff you will all go “ oh yeah, always trust content from ADub”

Anyone here know how the Target breach happened? Where 40 million target customer credit cards we’re stolen?

Through the thermostat.

I'd like to see the Chinese try to hack my wood stove
