Need some under crossing routes, slants, two last week and both completed, quick hits to the tailback, hit one to Max. today.Need safety valve for quick drop offs, screen passes to slow down the rush. Quick hits to the tight end. Most of our routes were deep outs, deep curl ins need higher % passes to build QB confidence. Boyle is our future QB. Looks pretty good. Experience will surely help.

I agree with your assessment. Protection breakdowns simply don't afford us the luxury of waiting for most of these deeper routes to come open.

I would have Boyle take off and run when opportunity is there, especially when defense is playing man on wideouts. Looked like it was there several times and makes stunts by lineman cost them.

"Need adjustments to passing game."

So says the thread title, but the subject matter is wrong. Yeah, we need adjustments to the passing game - it's called BLOCKING.

We've gone from 15 sacks in the entire 2010 season, to 41 in 2011, 33 in 2012, and an absolutely incredible 30 so far in 2013, with 6 games to go.

Now - to be fair - you ahve to look at the entire offense: and in 2010 we were 357 pass plays to 501 rush attempts (15 sacks / 357 passes)

2011: 429 passes, 466 rushes (41 sacks/429 pass att)

2012: 381 passes, 419 rushes (33 sacks / 381 pass att)

2013: 219 passes, 194 rushes( 30 sacks/ 219 pass att)

SO::::

In 2010 - our OL/QB combination was 1 sack per 24 pass attempts while our offense was Run Heavy, running 501 times to 357 passes.

In 2011 - our OL/QB combination wwas 1 sack per 11 pass attempts while our offense somewhat balanced, running 466 times, to 429 passes.

In 2012 - our OL/QB combination was 1 sack per 12 pass attempts while our offense was somewhat balanced again, running 419 times to 381 passes.

So far through 6 games in 2013: our OL/QB combination is a crazy 1 sack per 7 pass attempts while our offense is balanced running 194 times and passing 219 times.

I personally was shocked to see the run attempts vs. pass attempts so far in 2013 balanced. I would have thought it much more skewed in passing.

You'd think that the play callers on this team - would look at this, look at what our run game looks like over the past two weeks and figure out that until we can recruit offensive linemen that can pass block, and get them to pass block on the field,

the formula that randy edsall went with in 2010, is probably the best way to go to win games.

For once I agree with most of what you said.

We are going the rest of the way it appears, minus two coaches on staff.

Our offensive play callers, are inexperienced to say the least - who is in the booth? Day? I don't even know. Weist is calling palys from the sidelines? Who knows. Weist has been a play caller to my knoweldge for 3 seasons out of his career - several years ago at western kentucky when you review his bio. Day - never. Buggs? he's got to work on his special teams play calls - get better there. Foley? It's been a decade I think, or more since he called plays at Colgate. Let's let him try to figure out how to teach these guys to at least fall down or something and get in the way of a stunting defensive line on a pass rush.

Bottom line - is that these guys, need to look at what's happening with our offense, and start to figure out what works.

We can run over the left side of the line, with the play action fake out of the 3 wide set, and the QB an actual option now, we can keep defenses honest. They HAVE to commit to actually running the ball.

GIving up a sack every 7 pass attempts? It's no wonder we can't get out of our own way when we try to move the ball and put up points.

First and goal at the 2? Run the fricking thing 4 times, with a back that actually has shown they can move epeople.

It's really time for DeLorenzo to be the #1 back, and it's time to start building an offense that can move the chains regularly, AND score.
