How should the Baylor analysis lineup for UConn be done?

I'm torn between my usual UConn starting lineup vs Baylors starting lineup. But this is one game where Geno will start Stewart, or at least play her a lot more minutes than Doty.

I think he will want Faris on Sims, and will not want KML on Pope or Williams. He will mostly want a bigger players (Stewart, Stokes, Tuck) on them.

Thanks!

I think a four dimensional matrix accounting for starters, expected on court personel, score, and game time is the best way to go. It might take you a little longer than normal but you're retired now. :D

doggydaddy, you are right. Caroline will not play as many minutes, unless the youngsters get flustered. At home, and this late in the season, I don't think that will happen. You're also right about the defensive match ups, Kelly on Sims. Kelly is the one player who cannot under any circumstance drop off her player to help with Griner. That has to be left to thee other three players on the court. UConn needs for Stewart to be a mismatch. It will be close. UConn 65 - 63.

He will start Caroline, unless her injuries get in the way, but Stewie and Tuck will be in the game early. He needs a physical game with his players to deal with Griner, hence my belief that Tuck will see good minutes in the game as well as Stewie. Likely this will be a breakout game for one or both of them. JMO

On Edit: I will amend my thoughts on Tuck stating that how she plays in the games leading up to the Baylor game will determine how much time she gets (for this game). Given her gradual improvement and assuming her knee doesn't trouble her, she will do well.

Yes, we learned the other day that Caroline is dinged up so that may well affect her availability for play.

Geno will go with his usual starting lineup and then individually substitute players as need for fouls or a rest. Depending on how Stewart plays, I wouldn't be surprised if all the starters get major minutes. Stewart will play 4 or 5 minutes in the 1st half unless she comes out ready to play right from the beginning. That hasn't happened in most of the big games and most of Stewart's production comes in the 2nd half.

KML, Bria and Kelly need to have big games.

I'm looking for the lineup that makes the most sense to match up. Not who Geno will start. Doty will be starting. But Stewarts minutes will be close to double hers.

I'm concerned about matching Faris vs Sims. While that may be the case for much of the game, I think Sims can confound Faris more than any other top player. Sims is shorter and more of a fireplug and very fast, as I see it. Kelly might be better suited guarding a Baylor forward. The best defender vs Sims might actually be, drumroll, Jefferson. Sims rarely has to contend with anyone who might actually be quicker than she, Sims, is.

As to who can guard Sims when MJ isn't in, well, as the Beach Boys have said, "god only knows."

Are you saying the lineup Geno starts, won't make the most sense? ;)

You're over thinking this and it's already as you've concluded...the regular starting lineup and Ms. Breanna with extended minutes. It would be one helluva stage for her to have her true 'coming-out-party'! :)

I was being nice. I expect you to be capable of rising to the occasion. Take it as a complement.

I agree about Caroline starting and Breanna playing big minutes. And this may sound crazy but I hope Stokes can play some minutes. I think she is quicker on her feet than Stef and has quicker hands on defense. Give Stef a breather and keep her legs fresh for the last five minutes.

Yeah, but it doesn't matter who starts, I think. Isn't Doggy wanted to know which players he puts on his charts to do the comparison? How about this:

You go with the ones that have the most minutes: BH, KH, KML, Stewie, and Stef. Then you evaluate others that will give time at that position, and handicap the position, rather than doing a "bench" category, or at least you do that for people that will probably get major minutes: Mo, Kiah, CD, and Tuck.

Semp, you are the only one that understood what I meant. And clearly, I didn't explain myself well. Thanks for explaining what I meant better than I did.

I really think Breanna Stef and Kiah will all see alot of minute together. Right now we have Kelly Stef and KML scoring. Stef will be away from the basket forcing Griner out. KML will also be outside. That will leave the middle open. If Baylor dosnt guard the periminter and UConn is hitting their outside shots... well I like our chances alot. Breanna and Kiah underneath will istop alot of dribble penetation. Breannas arm length should make Griners shot a little tuffer to make.

May I suggest that we will need someone to bang with Griner, and that while Stef is capable of it, she is also capable of picking up two or three quick fouls.
Since we badly need Stef's offense, do you think perhaps that this may mean that we will see a considerable amount of Ms. Stokes? Next to Stef, she is our biggest and strongest. AND, a good rebounder and banger.

I expect Breanna to start...the Kelly matchup on Odyssey is what I've been waiting for all year...if he starts Caroline, Kelly has to move to the 4 again which hurts us on defense and seems to hurt Kelly's offense, as well...

I would wait until after DePaul to do my analysis. How Stewie, Tuck and Stokes play may determine who gets the most minutes as the fifth person along with Bria, KLM, Stef and Kelly.

Stewie should be that 5th person for your analysis but if she conrtinues to play badly against Marquette and DePaul as she did in the last few games she won't. Those minutes will probably go to Tuck and/or Stokes making your analysis very difficult.

You might just go with whoever of Stewie, Tuck and Stokes get the most minutes against DePaul.

I expect to see MJ do a turn on Odyssey...she can stay in front of her...we'll see if she can keep Odyssey from carrying her around on her hip...this'll be a great opportunity for MJ to make a big statement and grow three sizes at the same time...

It's going to be really interesting to see how you handle it. Can't wait! (But terribly nervous about the game.)

Hey, I offered a solution. Your your basic quad dimensional matrix.

-OK, right, I remember now!
-Isn’t that the one where Doggy Daddy (2nd from right) tells the Oracle to “Just shut up and listen” while he helps himself to the cookies and prophesizes exactly how we win?
