  • UNK football will play seven games in the fall and open its season Saturday, Oct. 3 at home against Missouri Western State. The Lopers first three previously-scheduled games – against Northwest Missouri State, Lincoln University and Central Missouri – will be moved and played in the spring.

I think this is the first team I’ve seen officially acknowledge playing games in both the Fall and the Spring, no?

Pretty good read here: Why some Division II conferences are planning for a split...

In Division II, at least two conferences are planning for a split season: up to seven games in the fall and the remaining games in the spring.

On Monday, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced it would delay all practices until the week of Aug. 31 and delay games until the week of Sept. 28, across all fall sports. The MIAA includes programs like Northwest Missouri State and Pittsburg State, two of the all-time winningest D-II football teams. The next day, the Mountain East Conference announced a similar decision, delaying practices until September and delaying games until October.

The tentative plans call for up to seven football games in the fall, still qualifying teams for the Division II playoffs if the season moves forward this year. But if the NCAA moves the playoffs to the spring, as some D-II administrators expect, the three September games and any others that are postponed would occur in the spring, before the D-II playoffs. They are all conference games, making this move easier for the leagues.
