Iowa on 11-2 run, down 43-41 in the third quarter..............I'm pretty sure ND will pull away in this one but they don't look that impressive.............does Brianna Turner ever move more then seven feet from the basket? She may be an All American but she's no Breanna Stewart

Iowa is a third-tier team. Lots of hustle (usually), but they are typically plagued by a tendency to take bad shots and rush the offense. ND made them look awful in the first quarter.

ND really should have won by 25+. Every time they looked like pulling away and burying Iowa, they made a dumb foul or turnover. Good thing about a game like that is that you still won by double digits and now you have plenty of bad tape you can learn from.

The refs had two amazingly bad calls near the end. First, they granted Davis a timeout when she didn't have the ball (it was loose and if anyone had it, Mabrey did). Cut to Mabrey, bug-eyed "I had the ball!". Then Young gets hit for an offensive foul for inadvertently elbowing Doyle in the face while diving for a loose ball...a loose ball caused by two uncalled reach-in fouls. The dark comedy reached its height when the officials reviewed Young's elbow for a possible flagrant foul, giving BTN ample opportunity to show the slow-mo footage of Doyle repeatedly fouling Young.

First true road game for ND might have played into it as well - always an adjustment to routine that needs to be learned.

IMHO Turner is one of the most overrated players in the country! ND is a good but not great team that is nowhere near the level of SC or Maryland.

They need to strengthen their defense.

For what it's worth, both Massey and Sagarin had this top 5 (prior to tonight):

1. UConn
2. Baylor
3. South Carolina
4. Notre Dame
5. Maryland

Interestingly, both predicted ND by 14 over Iowa. ND won by 15.

Iowa had their chances in the 3rd quarter. A made wide open 3 point shots and FREE THROWS would have tied the game or even given them a small lead. Who knows what happens then as Iowas would have gotten more confidence. Had to be frustrating for the players to see themselves get ND's lead down to 3 or 4 points, get open looks just to miss or turn the ball over to let ND build the lead back up to double digits. Don't think ND played a great game but they did what was necessary to win the game.

In such a ragged game, poise can be hard to locate. But Iowa continually seemed on the verge of panic; ND never cracked. They also know how to convert a layup when given the opportunity. Iowa shooters weren't even looking at the rim as they shot. Not exactly shocking how many they miss from close. So many in WBB shoot something I'd call a "flip" with neither form nor follow-through.
